yeah I believe the GM tool for rear mains is even pricier, crazy. I replaced my ls1 rear main without the tool and it sealed fine. I don't know anything about those cars but is the seal meant to be installed dry or with a thin coat of oil on them? sounds like the gap is more of the issue here...

just made my haul from sears, random 1/4 and 3/8 flex sockets were marked down and a handful of flare nut wrenches!! I got 27 sockets in total and 7 flare wrenches for $42 hahah I think I got a 14mm by me for .97, not sure if it was the 1/4 or 3/8. I wish the 10/13/15 were marked down but oh well

I just got one of those ratchets for free from a friend, mine looks like the back used to be red but it's so well used you can't see anything. Pretty impressive after 40+ years all it needed was a new reverse lever for $0.79

mine are all fine after 3 years (maybe a few specs on the bottom inside) of working outside, sometimes in light rain, and stored in a humid basement with no climate control or anything. most of them have been dropped in oil at one point or another though.
