Two positive developments yesterday. First, my wife decided that she was going back to work today. She's feeling better, less pain, she just has to avoid lifting and reaching. The minisplit unit in the garage area of my shop had been making an odd noise and temp output was low, so I called the...

I've used drywall lifts. Never wanted to do enough drywall to own one. I wouldn't trust working solo with a drywall lift with this $600 backboard.

For most of my adult life I played basketball in men's leagues and tournaments. I decided I needed a way to slow my physical decline. I ordered a basketball hoop to be able to just shoot around and stay loose. I poured the concrete and got the pole all set up, but I need two strong guys to hold...

PD, when I built my 40x90 shop on Whidbey my father was dying of dementia, so I planned the extra 40x20 for a future studio apartment for my Mom. After Dad died I asked her to move to Washington. She gave me the same answer as your Mom. Most of her friends had already passed, but she still...

Thanks guys, for even remembering me. I'm wiped out. This whole ordeal showed me how 'alone' we are since moving to Florida five years ago. At least Linda had her pickleball ladies to chat with occasionally. When she can retire in two years we're probably heading north, closer to families and...

I haven't done much in the shop to post about. Just organizing, adjusting things to my liking. Mostly been doing yard work when I have the energy. This year's storms left me a lot of clean-up, luckily no damage. Trying to re-energize right now after a couple of months dealing with a health issue...

    Shear Wall Questions

An electrical box cutout is not a problem. After cutting the upper opening, fish your wire UP through the lower box. It will be easy to find it inside the stud bay with a coat hanger.

    Another concrete question...

Use a 2x whatever your concrete depth is to frame the end of your pour. Drill a few holes through it to pass 3/8" rebar through to tie each section together (for when you pour the next section). I personally use rebar and pour sidewalks 3" thick. When I did my front walk here in Florida...

Looking for a suggestion for a waterproof coating that I can put over vinyl tiles

Consumers are mis-lead by claims that plank flooring is "waterproof". The planks themselves might be waterproof but they do not keep water from passing through the joints and into the flooring below. These planks expand and contract (thus the required spacing from walls) which I believe would...
