    Gap for barn doors

The wood have been inside of the building since last year and yes, they will need to be sealed when done or shrinking will be the least of my worries, twisting and cupping could be.

    Gap for barn doors

There will be one with the cane bolt and the other will have a strip to overlap the gap in the middle. I'm trying to get the gap right mostly for the weather stripping. We see winds and temperatures in the -20f, a good fit and weather seal does help.

    Gap for barn doors

I'm building barn doors for my workshop. The entrance is 91" tall by 111.5 wide, or 91" x 55 3/4" each. Obviously even if the frame was perfect that would not leave enough space for play nor weather gasket. Is a 1/4" gap all around plus between the doors about right? That would make each 90...

Snow load of plain old 1/4" glass

We don't get hail. I'm willing to live with the risk of dying from a freak glass panel breaking accident. Just like I live with the risk from the non tempered glass on the double pane windows in the house. And yes, the reason plastic is used is because of cost on both materials and labor.

Snow load of plain old 1/4" glass

That's fantastic, thanks. I plugged in the number but did not get the same result you did. Also I'm not clearly understanding the span in this context.

Building sales man selling me production drawings with no permit?

I'm in Alaska, just north of Anchorage. Every time it gets a bit too cold or the winter night a tad too long I just need to stop by here to browse the post on permits to remind me why I moved here. For my 1 1/2 story garage with 10/12 roof: I talked to the builder, recommended to me by...

Snow load of plain old 1/4" glass

I'm building a greenhouse attachment. To that end I have been collecting glass everywhere I find it; I have a pretty good stash of both 1/4" glass for the roof panes and 1/8" glass for the wall panes, non tempered as you can't cut those. On one hand the roof portion will have a good incline and...

Is there a freeze proof pipe I could burry?

I'm hoping for a pipe I can burry fairly shallow that will just resist breaking when frozen. This is for a line 100% outside of the house, from the well head to the porch of the house.

Is there a freeze proof pipe I could burry?

My well head is across the yard about 80 feet away. It would be fantastic if I could burry a pipe so I could have an out let right next to the house without having to drag and step over the same hose I drag and step on every single year. The bit of a problem is that temperatures here can hit...

4 post lift... what does an optional 24v control box do?

I'm looking at several 4 post lifts. Some come with an optional 24v control box. What does it do differently that it is an optional item?

Issues with Delta table saw motor

Yeah this is as simple as it gets, wire into switch and from there into motor. It is just weird how when cold it will be just dead. Turn the blade just a bit and it is back to business as usual. I'm asking because I would like to understand what's going on.

Issues with Delta table saw motor

A 36-600, the entry model with the direct drive motor. If it has not been running for a while it will not turn on unless I move the blade even just an inch (with a stick). After that it works normal and will start right up every time, until it cools off again. I imagine that the brushes on the...

    Table saw table width

My thinking is that a large table space invites clutter. I'm thinking taking it down to 36" rip capacity, router mounted, cabinet under, folding outfeed table. For now I think I'm going to build the extension table as if it was a 36" rip, see how that works for me

    Table saw table width

I'm finally setting up my 1974 Delta table saw. I could not find an older model so that will have to do :) I'm installing a Vega Utility fence. the length goes to 53" and change. I do have the space but I'm thinking that this is a tad excessive? Most of the woodworking I plan on doing doesn't...

Vega utility table saw fence measurement

Thanks, that 2-3/8" is the critical measurement I needed. On the manual it says that the fence to table clearance is 1/16" so that gives me the up/down. It is a very nice bracket but honestly once it is set is not like I'll need to keep messing with the adjustment. If I get it ballpark I can...

Next step/equimpent for mobile semi tire business (critique my setup and business plan)

As a one-man shop there is so much business you can handle so handle the business that works for you; don't try to shove the square peg in the round hole. For instance if inventory doesn't work for you, don't try to make inventory work for you, focus on getting all the business you can handle...

Vega utility table saw fence measurement

Could you measure the bracket? For the front bracket, how far is it from the back of the bracket to the mounting holes that connect to the rail?

Rebuilding the pumps on a Campbell Hausfeld air compressor

I recently bought a 60-gallon Campbell Hausfeld Ironforce series compressor. For starters the max pressure was set at 90PSI and now I understand why... It takes a while to build up to 90PSI and getting it north of 120PSI is wishful thinking; after 40 minutes or so it barely inched to 115PSI. It...

Vega utility table saw fence measurement

According to the manual I found online the back rail is 7/16 bellow the table top but it doesn't say how much for the front. I mean it needs to be 1/8" from the top of the mounting bracket which doesn't help when I'm making my own bracket... If somebody has a working one it would help to get me...
