Running a power cable through finished drywall wall.

This is for lights on a room, closet, and hobby room (that eventually may turn into a bathroom). The outlets are already on a separate circuit so they don't need to share that load. Basically a 14/2 wire going up to to the attic and into a 2-gang box. From there it splits 3-ways; closet...

Running a power cable through finished drywall wall.

Roger. Code doesn't quite apply to me (Alaska, outside of town zoning jurisdiction, don't need a permit even to build a whole house) but I find it stupid not to follow it out of basic common sense. Yeah, the intent is to conduit to where it goes into the ceiling and then put a box on the other...

Running a power cable through finished drywall wall.

My house wiring is interesting to say the least. It started as a small house, the previous owner was a contractor and did amazing work upgrading it, and then I came in and converted a 1-car garage into a room. Well I never finished the overhead lights electric, so the room lights are also the...

Electric raceway or gutter needed for 100amp

A different approach: how many wires can I put on a schedule 40 3" PVC conduit? The plan on this approach would be to put the feeder cable on its own conduit and the rest of the Romex cables on a 3" conduit.

Electric raceway or gutter needed for 100amp

I think there are about 15+ cables that go into the breaker box. This is why I'm thinking gutter/raceway instead of separate conduit for each cable.

Electric raceway or gutter needed for 100amp

Sorry for the delay responding; too many projects not enough time... This is Indoors. The panel needs to move about 8 feet in a utility room. Above where the panel is I'm putting an electric box where the patching happens and then raceway/gutter them over to the new location. Not arguing...

Electric raceway or gutter needed for 100amp

I need to move my house electric service panel about 8 feet. It handles 100 amps (200 amps going into the property, previously I stole 100 amps for the workshop). The plan is to pull all the cables into a surface mounted box and from there raceway/gutter them to the electric panel. Question...

    Installing stand by generator

The explanation was on the very first post. Generator has a power switch box that goes next/near your regular breaker panel. That box has 8 breaker slots for the stuff you want to protect. One feed goes to the generator, one feed to a 50amp breaker on your breaker box. When there is house power...

    Installing stand by generator

My bump on the road is that a lot of places either don't ship to Alaska or charge more for shipping than the cable itself... This is why I try to find things on Amazon, at least I don't have to keep giving my info on a bunch of random places just to find out they won't ship it :-\ I'll see if I...

    Installing stand by generator

How about this one? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BVLTDQ2T/?tag=atomicindus08-20 Guys, thanks a lot, your time and effort is truly appreciated. The "installation manual" is pretty much worthless on this.

    Installing stand by generator

Fantastic, thank you guys for setting me on the right path. I'm going with these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RJLS6YS/?tag=atomicindus08-20 And a spool of these for the control wire: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BVPVBNPB/?tag=atomicindus08-20 It wasn't pretty when I came back... You should...

    Installing stand by generator

Generac 7.5kw ds-6808. On the installation manual, the entirety of the information about the hot wiring side is this: "Note: Main AC wiring must be in accordance with local jurisdiction and codes." Page 28 here: https://prod-generacsoa.azurefd.net/manualsweb/manuals/3009168621/10000021782...

    Installing stand by generator

So... Can I bring the Romex outside if it is inside of the conduit? Or would I need a different cable?

    Installing stand by generator

This is strictly for emergency winter power and honestly it is only an emergency if I'm not here. We get wicked wind storms, two years ago while I was gone power went out for over a day, long enough for frozen pipes and water fountains... If I'm here is not an issue, I just burn wood.

    Installing stand by generator

The run should be fairly straight forward, I'm yet to find out if where I want it I'm going to hit wood or the poured foundation. That would make it a tad less fun but doable. Can Romex come out of the house if it is in the conduit or do I need to use an outdoor rated wire? My last writing job...

    Installing stand by generator

I'm self installing a small stand-by generator just to protect the boiler and critical circuits during winter storms. I'm in Alaska outside of city limits, I don't have to pull any permits. Looking at the installation manual it is missing quite a bit of info, mainly the stuff they assume would...

    Battery backup for boiler

That's the next step, to calculate how much battery would be needed for say 24 hours of operation. That would not even be a continuous 24 hours as the boiler turns on and off as needed. Considering how diligent our power company is about restoring power this would provide a quite ample safety net.

    Battery backup for boiler

I found something that could be cost effective. So there is this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B3S4CXX7/?tag=atomicindus08-20 Which is a sump pump backup system. The beauty of it is that this is just the controller, you still need an external battery. My guess is that it would be a...

    Battery backup for boiler

To clarify, as stated this would be for when I'm gone during Christmas vacation. If I'm here i don't need it, I just burn wood for as long as it takes. An alarm would not be all that useful as I would probably not even be in the same continent, is not like I could just drop by to address it...

    Battery backup for boiler

Last year I came back from my winter family vacation to find out there was a power outage in the middle of a windstorm. By the time power came back pipes froze, broke, and water works ensued. It took a few $ks to fix that mess and that was only the plumbing with me doing the drywall. Has...
