    Garage Speakers

I have an old Denon AVR-1604 receiver I got for $10 at a garage sale, hooked to the cheap front/center speakers that my living room 5.1 system came with, which I upgraded. Plugged in an old iPad mini with a mini headphone jack to RCA adapter, and I keep it plugged in to a lightning cable for...

    Different Types of Ratchets

Seconded on the GearWrench 120XP set. I needed a flex head on a stubborn bellhousing bolt on a LS motor recently, and the 3/8" ratchet from the set was the PERFECT tool for it. Fit and finish is good and they turn smooth as butter. Also comes with the big nasty 1/2" ratchet for bolts that need...

    Compressor motor not turning on

Well, I had the wires loose to get the pressure switch off, so I jumped them across to the motor, flipped on the breaker, and the motor RUNS. In hindsight, I'm not sure why I didn't just do that in the first place. lol. Bad switch confirmed. Found one on ebay. I'll have it in a few days again...

    Compressor motor not turning on

So it does! Terminals 1 and 3 show 240. Terminals 2 and 4 show 0.

    Compressor motor not turning on

Sounds plausible for sure. If nothing else, the cost of a $20 switch to learn a lesson in electric motor anatomy isn't too high a price to pay.

    Compressor motor not turning on

Hmm....swapped out the contact switch, and no dice. Motor still does nothing. No noise, no sign of life at all. I might have broken the old switch in the process of pulling the endcap off the motor. Did a little more checking with the multimeter. I get 240V across both legs on the input side...

    Compressor motor not turning on

My google-fu is legendary given enough time. lol. I found a part number on the switch "334665". I didn't find much for this except a few specialty vendors that wanted $100 or so, but I did learn that the correct part name is an "Emerson stationary switch". Looking that name up showed me an...

    Compressor motor not turning on

Excellent. Okay, continuity looks good across the windings. Continuity between the start capacitor and main motor leads looks good testing as indicated, but only with the start capacitor switch pressed in (more on that later.) Yep, 240V total across the leads. Indeed. Years of working in IT...

    Compressor motor not turning on

I have a 60 gallon vertical Campbell Hausfeld compressor that's about 12 years old. 3 HP 240V single phase motor. I have used it for light duty work, always being very diligent to drain the compressor after each use, etc. Any way, last night I went to use the compressor and the dang thing...

I can tell you're not from the south. There's no way I could wrench in so much gear in this heat.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I find almost all the jobs I do lately end up being some "Around the Shop in 80 Days" misadventure as well. Funny how something so simple can snowball into a day of work if you let it.

    The land of misfit toys

Looking good. The sketchup model of the truck on the lift looks like a good candidate to bring Jennifer to the lake this weekend. :) Any pictures of the toys? Those trucks hold a special place in my heart as well.

    Let's see your toolbox.

Well, I keep the Cobras in the same enclosure with those Swedish nut lathes, and one day I opened the drawer and the Plier Wrench was in there. I'm hoping for another litter in the fall. :lol_hitti Thanks! It works for me.

    The Ryobi Tool Appreciation/Review Permathread!

I did the exact same thing. I used the vacuum to clean out my 4Runner when I got home. Great suction and not too loud. I loved how all the pieces clip to the side of the vacuum. My only complaint is that while using it the attachments wanted to slip off the end of the hose. Since it has one of...

Oldest, rattiest t-shirt and jeans I have. The more hobo-chic the better. I would like some good dark-colored mechanics style shirts with the front pockets, but I haven't pulled the trigger on those. Advance Auto GearWrench Might Be Counterfeit

So like I said above, I got both sets of rails recently. I found the external rails hold on and stay in place. The internal rails slide all around and don't stay put. For my dollar, I actually PREFER the external rail.
