Older pre 2010 Duralast socket sets quality and price

These sockets are near and dear to my heart, because they were my very first set of sockets I bought for myself. Bought them to work on my first car, a hand-me-down Dodge Spirit from my parents. I bought them about 20 years ago. I still have them all. Great sockets. I never busted one or...

What's the harbor freight floor jack to get (sub $100)?

I've got that aluminum 1.5T unit that I've put through hell and back. Mine is going on 10 years old too. If it failed today, it owes me nothing. Those yellow Daytona's are basically a straight copy of a Snap-On jack. So much so that Snap-On sued HF for it. The court disagreed (I'm sure on some...

    Let's see your toolbox.

Finally got a chance to reorganize my 1/4" and 3/8" inch socket drawer. And since my wife bought me some nice Knipex pliers, I went ahead and cleared out a drawer for my nicer pliers. The others are just in a big pile. lol.

Advance Auto GearWrench Might Be Counterfeit

I bought a deep set and a shallow set of metric 1/4" sockets in the recent sale. One came on one rail and the other came on the other. That said, one of the sets (forget which one) was in a blister pack with the label so faded I wonder how long they were sitting around waiting for a buyer.

    Man, that sounds terrifying. lol.

50% off select Gearwrench Sets Advance Auto Parts

The deep 1/4" sockets are a little weird. They only broached the last 1/4" or so on all the sockets. I'm not sure I'm a fan of that, and I've been contemplating returning them.

Pros/cons of French-style "clés à pipes" socket wrenches

First thing I thought of. (this took way too long to do).

No matter how many X I have, I can never find any...

I work in an IT office that has a little tech room for repairing PC's. My boss got tired of never being able to find any of the several Philips head screw drivers that should stay in that room. To make a point, he bought a pack of 50 screwdrivers and littered the office with them. A year later...

Thoughts on Harbor freights recent expansion into more expensive offerings?

I'm actually very pleased with a set of Quinn linesman pliers I picked up when they first came out. $7, and very well made. I abuse them too, and they put up with it.

My wife did good for the anniversary this year! Knipex Cobras, Knipex PlierWrench, Braun underhood light, Gearwrench 120XP flex-head set, and (a gift I thought was extra special) a collage she had made with the license plate from my Miata I just sold. Happy as a pig in mud. :)

Yes, I tried google. :p Funny, I found that exact switch last night. Seems to be the best one I can find. It does appear to fit the square indentation in the casing for the fan that makes me believe it might have been the OEM switch used in this application. When my bearings come in, I'll run...

    HF Underhood light

Are you talking about the long underhood light with the magnetic endcaps? Huh, it's still showing as 37.99 here.

Okay, so I found this, which appears to be exactly what I needed. Boy that was hard to find. Good thing it's a slow day at work today. lol. Now I just need to locate an appropriate speed switch. I can find 4 position switches intended for fans with low-med-hi all day long. Looks like 3...

I don’t particularly NEED other speeds but there’s something about putting a tool back to its original condition that is appealing to me. Also I’m 100% sure I need a new switch because the original switch is missing. :bounce: Only the hole in the case where the switch once was remains. If I...

Honestly, I've put the same non-wobble versions the guy above bought through a ton of abuse and never had any issues. But then again, that's always the Harbor Freight way isn't it? One guy can torque a suspension bridge nut with one with no issues, and another guy will have one snap clean in...

I recently acquired a 36" drum fan for peanuts that had a few issues. Specifically, it's a FE-90D3FOL model that appears to be turn of the millenium vintage. When I first got it, she shook like crazy, made all kinds of racket, and only runs in one speed. The mechanical issues were obvious. I...
