To office or not to office-That is the question

Keep an "office". You'll want a clean dust/dirt free space. Put a small A/C unit through the wall so you can have a conditioned space. A place for the computer and where you can relax. Maybe a window looking into the shop.

    Hellfire

I have just over 3,000 sq.ft of Hellfire in my shop. It's been down for close to 10 months. Seems very durable. Weld slag will cause dark spots but I've seen no bubbling. Cleans up well with a wet mop.

    Cost of slab?

I paid $0.60 a sq. ft. for a 3,000 sq. ft slab. This was placement and finishing/power troweling. My son and I did all forms, stone placement, vapor barrier and steel placement.

    running wires - truss question

Can run wires across outer ends of truss where "headroom" is three feet or less. No protection necessary. Where headroom is greater run wire along side a 2x4 or staple to side of bottom cord of truss. The reasoning is not not to be able to "walk" on the wires.

    What Ceiling Height?

Go to 10' with 9' high OHD. Yes the 9' door works with no special hardware. I have 3 in my shop. Well worth the minimal $$ spent. I installed the doors and openers by myself. Also will save on labor and waste. A 4x8 panel can be carried and flipped over/around with less worries on hitting the...

    Garage ceiling sheets

Use corrugated (ribbed) white metal. it can be cut to most any length. Raise into place with a sheet rock lift. Lift can be purchased cheap at HF for around $130 with a coupon or on sale. After installation sell the lift for $75-100. The metal is prepainted, maintenance free and reflective. I...

    Reefer madness shop

Do the nichrome thing. Cutting with any toothed blade will leave a bit of a jagged edge to clean up. And it will be way safer.

Has anybody here built their garage THEMSELVES?

The only thing we contracted was the slab pour and finish. Here's the link to the build. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=442273

Should I just buy new drip edge?

Straighten and if you are going to have any gutters put the bent ones where there will be gutters. You'll never see them.

move 3 tons weight up and down a 21 degree mud slope with winch

Rent a shingle lift. It's like a extension ladder with a motorized trolley. put some 2x4 crossways on the ground to keep it out of the mud. Due to the shallow angle make a "tray" and attach to the trolley to hold the blocks. Should work rather quickly and fit in the narrow space. One person...

    welding table bowed top, help

Not sure you need a fire on top. The "bottom/base" of a fire is not very hot. Try the bolts first. Use a good grade and large diameter so you don't strip the threads. I jacked mine straight with some 7/8 acme threaded rod and pinned nuts.

    Ceiling fans for a 40x64

I used one of these 84" fans www.homedepot.com/p/Home-Decorators-Collection-Fenceham-84-in-Indoor-Brushed-Nickel-Ceiling-Fan-with-Remote-Control-YG491-BN/205718225 in my shop in the cathedral ceiling above the hoist. It is quite, efficient and has a remote. Best deal in a fan that size I could...

Cracks, to deal or not to deal?

When I used Extreme Set 1000 from Legacy I found mixing 4-5" in their disposable bottle was about all I could get poured out in the joints/sand before it got too thick to absorb into the filler sand. Mix and pour quick! Do not think about it! Temp. was about 75 when I did this.

    HellFire Concrete Coating, Easy, Tough!

Here are a few shots of my floor with Hellfire applied. Also used their crack filler. Once ground the expansion joints are nearly invisible. Hellfire has held up well to jack stands and floor jack. So far no visible sign of use. Easy to apply.

Above 1200 Sq/FT A New Shop in Tennesse

Both air lines and dust collection will be surface mounted on the walls. The office is the only place with heat and A/C. The temps are fairly mild here in TN. On a cold day the shop is 50-55* so I work a bit faster or wear a light coat. The office is insulated and inside the shell. I have...

Above 1200 Sq/FT A New Shop in Tennesse

Well there it is done except for the dust collection and air lines. All said and done the building ran us less than $25 a square foot. I shopped a fair amount for materials. Lowes had the best prices on many of the supplies. The Lowes rep said if one purchased more that $1,500 at a time they...
