    Speaker-Audio Wiring

I hate wiring and anyone who mislabels it should be put in prison for a very long time. I have various pieces of automotive power cable. Various lugs and a Greenlee crimper. It's all guesswork and trial and error to make sure the crimps I use are suitable for the wire as some are thinner...

Some googling shows that it might actually be real... http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic/43228-installed-a-3-post-bradbury-hoist-for-my-boxster/

    Probably a good guess.

Replacement 2 Gal air compressor tank

I have a Delta 2 gallon 100PSI air compressor. Little guy, but I just use it for blowing out computers and electronics and the occasional air nailing. Works fine for what I need and is a fair bit quieter than others that I've heard. Problem is I bought it used and don't know what condition...

    Inverter type Window A/C

Strange that they all seem to be available in the Philippines if cost is the big factor. I'm glad I live on the noisy traffic side of the building as that helps to drown out the noise of the A/C. I've got it sitting on cork and foam pads to further reduce the vibration through to downstairs...

    Inverter type Window A/C

I'm still searching for an inverter type Windows A/C. I'm getting really annoyed at the constant on/off/on/off of the compressor on my window unit and the associated temperature fluctuations. Plus being in an apartment I'm sure the noise and frequent cycling is annoying the neighbour below...

    Crimper frustration

Not building airplanes here, just wiring up my new horns :p I came across this. It appears to be a Waytek branded Pressmaster, Swedish made dies... Are the Pressmaster private label tools the same quality/spec as the Pressmaster branded tools? The price seems good (although the exchange...

    Crimper frustration

Yeh, I have a set of 8-1/0 hex crimpers that I bought that compresses all around. But, they're hex crimpers.

    Crimper frustration

I'd like to see how that works. Every insulated crimper I've seen flattens the wire crimp down.

    Crimper frustration

The only issue I have with that design is crimp consistency - a good set of ratcheting crimpers won't release until the crimp is properly crimped. Under/Over crimping isn't an issue. (With good crimpers anyway...)

    Crimper frustration

I ordered some AMP PIDG terminals and they seem to hold on OK. I also tried a few Molex and 3M branded terminals and they pulled off pretty easily. The AMP PIDG terminals have a second, thin layer of copper around the wire crimp portion of the terminal and I think this additional thickness...

HELP PLEASE loud pop and electric burn smell

You know, normally I'd roll my eyes at someone bumping a 4.5 year old thread, but it was your post that saw me Googling "Surge protector fires" and came across an APC power bar recall. Turns out 2 of my 4 were included in this recall, and I wouldn't have found out had I not read this ancient...

    Crimper frustration

Yes, the crimpers are adjustable, but they close tightly with no play in the jaws. After the success of the GB spade terminal, I picked up some GB female disconnect terminals. Packaging would seem to indicate they were the same "line" of terminals. There were two varieties, a 25 pack and...

Sure, here's some shots. A few more photos here: http://s1089.photobucket.com/user/ssbtech/library/Crimp%20Experiment?sort=9&page=1 First up, the Certified brand terminals: In the crimper ready to crimp: Finished crimp before removing: Side shot of completed crimp: Wire pulled...

    Crimper frustration

I saw the price for the MCT Frame tool and thought gee, that's not bad. Then I saw the price for the dies at 70+ a pop. I added the tool to my cart on Alliedelec but they can't ship the tool to Canada. Sometimes I hate living in Canada. I can't get tools, can't get shoes that fit...

Thanks for thinking of that, but I have the terminals in the right way with the wire entering from the coloured dot side :)

    Crimper frustration

I've also tried the crimpers and terminals on Ancor marine rated wire of the same gauge with the same result. I'm also a bit puzzled at how the same terminal and crimper position can be used for two different gauge wires - it seems logical that the thinner gauge would be crimped with less...

    Crimper frustration

Thanks. The other thing that bugs me is I can't find any specs for die dimensions. I don't know if it's the crimper that's not tight enough, or just **** crimp terminals.

    Crimper frustration

I'm not sure if this belongs in tools or electrical, so I'll just leave it here. I have a pair of ratcheting crimpers from Canadian Tire (these ones) It's sold under their "Certified" brand. Also purchased was a pack of "Certified" brand disconnects, size 14-16AWG and a spool of.. wait for...
