Possibly a more efficient use of your time would be to weld a few beads on the "tongue" and grind them to get that fit, "just sayin' "

And I am glad to see that we have a mature group of folks here who will not have to flame a guy for using an ironing board (for anything). So many forums are that way and I will not spend a second of my time on them. BRAVO dudes!! What night is garbage night again??

I would consider JB Weld for this bonding project. If you do use this 2 part epoxy, place a 2x4 or so over the tops of the sockets to keep them flat to the surface and prevent the wires from altering the position. Not too heavy or too much JB will ooze out. What does ooze out can be troweled...

I use McAfee and I just clicked the link I posted (Tillet USA) to see if "Site Advisor" would balk & it did not. I would never advise another to disregard their protection scheme, but my software is OK going there.

Hey "that Chevy guy", welcome aboard! That is a pretty good fab on those gates. It IS hard to show less than beautiful welds on this Forum, so I understand why you did not include the mesh photos. But, post the finished product, installed, for us when you get a chance.....

Nice fabrication! Now, if you DO get a bigger boat..... may I suggest that you find a way to tie into some beefy structure so that all the stress is not concentrated in the floor of the trunk. I think you could fab up a few links, anchor them to your existing bolts & call it done. The floor is...

StumpXJ's homebuilt Fabrication / Welding cart.

That is a nice "Workstation"!! May I suggest that you source a piece of material suitable to resist the hot sparks and disintegrating cutting wheel debris (will not help with THAT smell though:willy_nil ) and cover the welder. Clean machine, always a good thing!

Disclaimer: I am not an electrician. Wire size is the next consideration, and also how you encase them so as to form the equivalent of an extension cord on steroids. Last time I did the calculations I needed #6 wire. Your welder's input current and the length of the conductors will be the data...

That is a nice design & execution. May I suggest that you make up end pieces to keep the rods clean & dry?

I used expanded metal like this for a few projects. I welded every single place where it touched the edge and it absolutely will handle quite a bit of weight, certainly 90#. I was happy that I had an auto darkening helmet with all of that quick bead, move, quick bead thing.

    Caulking Expansion Joints....

Well, I did just that and ended up watching your whole project come together, talk about an endless punch list! Nice work BTW. So your joints have been caulked since January. Would you use the same product again? I am concerned with the bonding to the slab edges issue for my (outside) E/J...

I appreciate the info guys! Do any of you want to post some photos of the completed expansion joint caulking job(s) & indicate how long ago it was done?

    Caulking Expansion Joints....

Thanks Steve, I still haven't received a price quote on the stuff. I will probably do a per foot assessment of the caulk method (primer, backer rod, caulk, tape for clean edges) to compare to this product. If I do, I will post my numbers here. Then there is the time factor......hmm. During this...

    Caulking Expansion Joints....

I found a chart while researching all the available options for my driveway expansion joints titled "Sealant / Caulking Yield Rate per Tube" . It is on a pretty informative website here: http://www.bestmaterials.com/caulk_sealants.aspx#Sealant_Caulking_Yield_Rates
