Single do it all device for occasional pulling and maybe lifting

Wyeth-Scott More Power Puller. Mine's 50 years old and still going strong (except the cable's worn out--I've got a replacement my Granddad never installed, but I'm thinking about going with Amsteel Blue for safety reasons). https://www.wyeth-scott.com/

Went to Walmart to buy sandpaper for cleaning up some 3D prints, and came out with more than just that. Would you believe Lowe's had absolutely zero decent-sized packs of sandpaper in stock?!! I tried the cheap stuff from Dollar Tree, and that stuff was garbage. The grit would just fall off. It...

    Cat (Snap-On) tool haul

I just checked my email--neither Boyd nor Carter CAT (the two dealerships with locations near me--first is an hour, second maybe 25 minutes) had such a sale--but I did get an email from Carter Machinery about a 15% off sale. I got my first ones back in August when they ran a free shipping sale...

    Harbor Freight Coupon Thread

Same here. Most of my tools are stored in a small 1950s car garage. The cars (and most work I do on them) are stored in the quite spacious "two car" (really, four) 1990s garage. There's a decent sized hill between both garages, and my stupid **** keeps the racing jacks (1990s Harbor Freight) in...

    The Everything 3D Printer Thread

Lets see, drive ten minutes to Lowe's, spend an hour for something that probably wasn't there despite several being listed in stock, and then drive back home--vs. 30 minutes of printing a few copies of a right angle bracket to shore up a cheap bookcase. I chose the second option. Gotta admit...

    Harbor Freight Coupon Thread

I've got to get some power strips tomorrow (they're cheaper with the 15 foot cord than everywhere else). So far, my list includes that, a couple spare extension cords, and zip ties (3/4 of the time, I go to Harbor Freight for a couple bags of those and come out with $100 or so worth of stuff)...

This free SO box even worth it ?

In my use, that wouldn't be so much of an issue--heck, even if I kept it in one place that handle would be useful--like to hold my grease rag. Occasionally, I have to lift my Craftsman machinist's box off the hobby bench to clean, and if it weren't for the handles--that wouldn't be happening.

This free SO box even worth it ?

Honestly, it doesn't look that bad--I would check the bottom pretty good. I've often come across old boxes with rusted out bottoms. At that time, every tool company must've had a sticker like that. I've got a round Mac version inside the lid of my Craftsman top in the garage.

    Corded lights....obsolete these days?

I'm gonna put an LED bulb in mine. That being said, most work I do is with a Coast LED headlamp.

    The Everything 3D Printer Thread

As I put the order in for my Bambu A1 (and I'm seriously considering the model with AMS as it's only $100 more--far cheaper than the AMS itself is even on Black Friday) I'm wondering if anyone here has used Hobby Lobby's filament. Figured I could save money and space with the A1 Mini, but I've...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Really need to get one of those on order, unless I can clean up my old one. I have an old one I found in an abandoned barn, but it's pretty rusty. I need to see if I can get it cleaned up. Gearbox oil for things like the Bush Hog and roto-tiller is where it would, most definitely shine.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

That reminds me; I've got some updating and modding to do with all three of my PCs. The Dell Latitude 5290 needs a new battery--it was toast when I got it secondhand. It's kind of useless constantly tied to a charger--especially as I like it with the 2-in-1 tablet feature (it also replaced a...

Schrade Century (made by Adler in Germany in the '90s) Endeavour and the monthly free sticker pack from Klein. The Endeavour is very close to the Victorinox 84mm Apprentice, but much easier to find (and slightly larger at 91mm). Almost as good quality. I wanted a decent size knife that was...

Confess: What Tool Did You Not Really Need But Bought Anyhow? (Silly Stuff Included)

Most of the time when I do drag out my "tip drill" (pin vise), it's for hobby stuff like that. Typically, holes no bigger than a precision screw. Also, the tiny handles mean fewer bits broken--even on the larger end of "pin vise" bits (which are on the smaller end of regular drill bits in my use).

Confess: What Tool Did You Not Really Need But Bought Anyhow? (Silly Stuff Included)

They're really nice with a 3/8 to 1/4 and then 1/4 square to 1/4 hex adapter (as my only one, a 1960s Craftsman is 3/8). They are extremely fast screwdrivers set up this way. And for loads of nuts and bolts that aren't high torque, they are awesome. I really need to get a 1/4 (and probably 1/2...

I'm in. Been looking into stuff like this as I get tired of having to rewind my old fifty foot cloth Lufkin.

    Site Down

It's weird how much of the web AWS and Cloudflare alone are responsible for. That being said, most of the forums I'm on (all but a couple VBulletin-hosted) were down when I dragged my rear out of bed this morning).

    Mini backhoe perhaps?

I think the JCB 1CXT would qualify, but dang they're expensive. Used, $60K. New--almost $85K! https://www.jcb.com/en-US/products/machines/backhoe-loaders/1cxt/ Seem to recall they were expensive when I first thought about suggesting one to my folks when they started the search for a small...

The Christmas special Mini Rapid Utility Knife 3-pack from Lowe's and a Sherwin Williams paint can opener (free from S-W--these are my go to pry tool). These are a licensed version of the Gil-Tek RUK (about $30 each and US made). The Gil-Tek (US-made, and $30) has a pry tool and bit driver on...
