This compressor makes a little more noise than expected but is pretty quiet. I have it upstairs in a fairly small room so it's probably magnified somewhat. However, standing near it is no problem, my piston compressors are so loud I just can't stand them. Bigger compressors that run slower may...
Will do. So far, all I fixed was the outlet hole in tank. Was roughly 1/2, used step bit to open up to 3/4 or so. General craftsmanship looks very good.
Compressor has arrived in good shape! Working on getting it installed along with shop lines. Will post more when I get it set up. Customs, warehouse fees, dock fees, agent fees just about doubled cost even though Ocean freight was paid. I guess the minimums add up for one unit. Will post final...
Thanks. Can't wait to get back to working on mill, got sidetracked for a while. 3 axis cnc, 10hp spindle, 20 position tool changer & cart with about 60 cat40 tools... Jeep needs a new pair of shoes- or in this case a semi 1919A4
The welded metal frame is quite robust. The shear panel is just gravy. The nice thing about welded metal is it should never sag more than it does initially under its own weight. Plus, foaming in insulation panel stiffens it up even more.
Better photo of 45 Willys MB I just restored
Photo of my new (to me) mill, needed carriage doors to provide height and access to side shown... Really glad I went with 5" 4000psi concrete with remesh after all...
12,500 lbs!
Probably around 160 lbs for each door. I'm using SS 1/4-20 flat head machine screws to attach hinges to door. 1/8 steel tube has tapped holes.
I'm using #12 x 3" SS flat head wood construction screws to join hinges to jambs. This seems to be adequate with 5 screws per leaf
I plan to add a thin aluminum strip at the back off one door to seal center gap with a weatherstripping profile. I'll add stop molding at top & sides & a sweep at bottom. I'll probably use cane bolts on one set & a modified door opener on the primary set
door fully primed with oil primer. Trim board on all 4 sides.
doors hung with one coat BM Arborcoat semi-transparent mahogany stain. Each door is 47.25 wide by 88.5 high.
6x6 custom stainless steel ball bearing hinges. Custom sample order from China. Haven't installed the glass yet. What do...
I've been working on this project a while and figured I'd share. I browsed all the article I could find on carriage doors before I started to look for ideas.
I really wanted doors that wouldn't sag over time and hopefully wouldn't rot. The original wood doors were pretty beat.
I decided to go...
Yah, we'll see. The differences between the two styles aren't always that obvious. Rings make a good seal, but so does the oil seal. Reciprocation is pretty lossy, as is belt drive. Others claimed piston types were more efficient, but I think otherwise.
Just waiting for my ship to transit the...
Regarding efficiency: piston compressors waste a lot of energy by having to accelerate & deaccelerate the pistons at speed. And since the air is released once compressed, there is little compensating pressure to push piston back down. Kinda like a Jake brake. Plus the greater heat generated is...
The manufacturer recommends first oil change at 500 hours & then every 2500 to 3000 hrs after that. The 10k figure was quoted by Shell for their oil.
Thank you for your in depth comments. Much appreciated!
