    Missed It By That Much

Hahaha jerk! :P I've missed out on a free Toro snowblower that just needed a friction disc, 2 free sets of O-A tanks, and plenty of other stuff. Ya gotta love the Kijiji Free Stuff section when you're strapped for cash. :P

Got some goodies for our bridgeport mill

Oh hahaha I missed the date. Haven't seen this thread for a while, so I thought it had been there for a bit. I'll definitely be giving that thread a read when I have a chance!

    Record Vise replacement pins?

Thanks for the offer, Dan! These vises are complete, just needing the pins, but thanks again anyways! It's funny you mention English made vises on foreign shores, I live in basically the land of tradesmen and every shop you go to uses Record vises. :P I tried to extract the tap to no avail and...

Got some goodies for our bridgeport mill

Got the DRO running yet? Got any over all shots of your shop??

    For the Canucks here:

I don't buy anything from Cambodian Tire unless it's 60-75% off. Gotta love the e-mailed flier. Even at those prices I'm somewhat selective about what I'll buy but anything with a lifetime warranty is a no-brainer!

Well ****. I broke my vise!!!

Honestly, if that one lasted you 10 years and was cheap and you plan on snipe-ing it I'd probably just watch Kijiji or swap meets and grab another.

Nasties corner, a collection of shop projects past and present

Wow. Awesome work as I'm sure you know! When reading other posts of yours I always thought it was a one man shop, do you still have employees? I hope you're able to pass your knowledge on at some point to someone worthy and able to soak up as much as they can! :P Edit: and I just saw your post...

    Record Vise replacement pins?

The funny thing is I get along very well with two knowledgable journeymen, one of my first times I was on a lathe I cut two API box threads and didn't break the insert (then was pulled off the machine to do "more important things" and wound up standing around because there was nothing to do)...

    nine4's projects, restorations and blunders

Mind if I ask the colours you used on that block grinder? I have an old Beaver DP I plan on fixing up and those colours would look goooooooood! ;)

    Record Vise replacement pins?

I love this site. The pathetic thing is I learn more on here and various places around the internet than I do at a machine shop where I'm supposedly getting "trained". Time to update the ol' resume. That tap chart is AWESOME! Thanks, Larry! Once again, you guys rock, thanks for the help! -Eric

    Record Vise replacement pins?

Haha thanks AP, I already tried some vise-grips right after it happened, didn't seem to be a go, but I'll give it another more well-rested try before showing that tap it messed with the wrong guy! :P My main concern is that even if I get the tap out without any damage to the jaw, I'm still...

    Record Vise replacement pins?

****. Well, yesterday after a long frustrating day at work I decided to do a little work on the vise while I was still there (the one that had been welded) threw a carbide end-mill into a drillpress and cranked it up over 2,000rpm and the hole was drilled quick as can be and was beautiful...

    Record Vise replacement pins?

That's a good point, Larry. I hadn't really thought of that. Maybe I'll just turn down some pins on the lathe at work. I'll be coating the entire lead-screw in nickle anti-sieze, so I can't imagine there being an issue, but I guess if worse comes to worse or if I have to remove the pins at some...

Anyone Here Build A Cigar Humidor?

I've been thinking about this too lately, would love to build a nice humidor, the thing about a humidor though is that you have to use proper wood. You need wood that will help keep the proper moisture in the container. I think spanish cedar is the wood of choice, but someone here may know...

    Record Vise replacement pins?

Got a bit done on the vises yesterday. Wire-wheeled the machined surfaces to get rid of rust and ******, the rusty (light blue) vises jaws and replaceable jaws are in INCREDIBLY good shape! There were aluminum soft-jaws bolted on with the stock jaws that must have been there basically since the...

    RECORD No. 2 Swivel Vise

Probably go with Hammerite smooth finish blue? I've been looking into paints for the two No.6 vises I'm fixing up (pictures here) although I think I'm going to steer away from blue, mine aren't super old or anything, might try to find a cool colour enamel for them. That old Record paint is tough...

How would you clean up these bastards?

I wouldn't bother with vinegar, especially since you don't want to damage them. Just use some degreaser (even dish soap, it's gentle, but works shockingly well on sticky grease) and then a card-file. Otherwise you might risk losing the edge a bit.

    My Garage in Alberta

Screw the Porshe garage, check out these Pontiacs! :P Nice garage, good to see another Albertan around. What kind of work are you planning on doing in the garage?

Got some goodies for our bridgeport mill

I just got a tingle in my bottom. For tramming the vise though, here's a quick and easy way to go: http://tomstechniques.com/portfolio-items/indicate-the-vise-on-a-milling-machine-in-just-one-pass/
