So, nothing new with the garage yet, but I did receive a couple of free Made In England Record vises!! They were both in non-working condition, and I'm fixing them up!

How to add an "X" to my welding table?

If you can't remove the top from the base, then aMag-base drill-press (gives you a great excuse to go buy one!) to drill the holes, then I'd use it to drill a smaller hole for each line in the middle since that image shows the lines having a nice radius at the end which will be way easier to do...

    Air compressor auxilary tank

And let the posts about welding on an air-tank begin: :P Seriously though, seems like a neat idea other than being a lot of strain on that little motor and compressor, but please go get your aux. tank pressure tested before you start using it.

    Record Vise replacement pins?

So I got a couple of free 6" Record vises recently, both in non-working condition, one was missing a chunk from the static-jaw, the other was completely rusted and the jaw didn't move with the lead-screw. I assumed the second just needed new pins and I was right (they were both sheared...

Dont forget about your dog shop

Holy ****, that's nicer than my house. Haha! Lucky pooch. I'm planning on making a doghouse (or two, I suppose) that will have the same siding and shingles as my house and rest against the house, but no heat or lights were planned. :P Mine are house dogs though. Great job!

Love it, and always nice to see another hoser on here!

My New Drill Press (Rebuild Required)

Any updates on this or the Bridgeport??

Its not cool or new, but I found this drill press.

If it runs and the spindle runs straight, I'd say it's worth it! Way better than what you'd get new for the same price.

    T-Slot Table

I never thought I'd say this: I WISH I LIVED IN ONTARIO!!!!! ...Oh god, I feel dirty. Think I need a shower now. ;)

Thanks, Buzzards! The more I think about it the more I think that that gap will be adequate since I don't plan on keeping it insanely warm in my shop (warm enough to not be unpleasant to work in) in the winters, so I just need to make sure that there isn't wood behind the soffit itself I guess...

This is what you get if you bug your neighbor enough!

You can drop that off with a few bundles of insulation. Thanks! ;)

Young Guy Garage Reno in Edmonton

Well, not sure what it'll get me cash-wise right now: no tank, some busted up parts, not sure if it would run or not yet (probably not without a fair deal of work) etc. When I picked it up it was lying in a field with the GS that's sitting behind it, the GS didn't even have spark-plugs, probably...

Young Guy Garage Reno in Edmonton

Yeah, I couldn't believe it when I saw it out with the trash at my dad's place. Immediately hauled it back into the yard which did not seem to amuse him. :P I love that it's Made in Canada too! I try to get as much old Canadian made stuff as I can. So far only the heater, an old Beaver drill...

Haha sorry Gio, I didn't even notice your post, I guess I missed the e-mail about your reply. Yeah, I've watched Re-store and Kijiji a fair bit, I saw a house-worth of used insulation on Kijiji one day but was just too late. Next time I guess. At the moment the financial situation is too tight...

Curtis Air Compressor - To Buy or Not To Buy?

it all depends on how much work you're willing to put in, but I personally would try to get it, but for less than $200 for the reasons already mentioned. $50 and a case of beer maybe? (That's how we do things in Canada ;) )

    Workshop 88

Hahaha love the shots of the loaded up car. I have a little 2.3L 4cyl Ranger now (my turboed Miata wasn't great for hauling) it gets great mileage, and it has worked harder than most diesel trucks here. It's hauled at least a dozen motorcycles, pulled a huge bush from my front yard, carried...

How do I measure valve shim thickness with this mic?

Are your standards small enough to fit in? The standards I use are all smaller than the spindles on the micrometers, I'd just grab the 1" standard and stick it in, no?

Affordable, Accurate method to cut steel?

For the love of god, PLEASE do not put an abrasive blade in a wood-saw. Those sparks are hot, there are a lot of them, and plastic is not up to the task. Plus as has been mentioned, there are different rotating speeds. Get yourself an angle-grinder and some assorted wheels (they're cheap if you...

    projects for the kids

Oh man, SO many things he could do! As machine_punk said, I would really recommend having him build some items that he'll need when he has his own garage. He could cut the material, do lay-out, etc. while you're gone. He could build jackstands, tool-boxes, tooling-holders, etc. If you pick-up an...
