Welding in new motorcycle swing arm/engine mounts?

@danielbuck Posting pictures of lathes is expressly forbidden to those of us who do not have them!

Welding in new motorcycle swing arm/engine mounts?

I'll take a closer look at the swingarm components again!

    Fix crossthreaded, threads?

Thread restorer/chaser has been ordered. Doubt I'll be able to get it from the back  but I will try to use an alignment jig from the front.

    Fix crossthreaded, threads?

That's clever, and I'm fairly confident that I would completely ruin the part, this time.

    Fix crossthreaded, threads?

Funny, the donor engine had a bolt broken off in a similar location, heat and hammering on the extractor cracked the mounting tab!

"He" looked into that, but then he'd hafta get custom bearings and sleeves and stuff, and something else was a problem that he can't remember right now.

    Fix crossthreaded, threads?

Oops, saw that after I posted, Ronin! That's what I was afraid of (rightly so?). Progress!

    Fix crossthreaded, threads?

THAT'S the response I would expect Google's AI (which I've been pleased with, so far) to tell me! The threads are there, they just need mooshing back...Now, would you agree there's no harm in trying the tap first? Then I'll know? My preferred approach would be: 1) try the tap and lube, er...

What the heck... That's what [pronoun of choice] said?

Welding in new motorcycle swing arm/engine mounts?

Sniff, sniff, you all are the best! I'm in Georgia if anyone is really feeling charitable! I don't mind paying for quality work, either! ("Quick" backstory, when I bought this bike (about 10 years ago), the seller actually test drove it, but I brought it home and couldn't get it to run...I'm...

Welding in new motorcycle swing arm/engine mounts?

I'm in about 99% agreement with you, @RoninB4... The feeling of accomplishment from DIY-ing the whole thing would be nice, and I think I have a decent grasp on what needs to be done, and also the understanding that most, if not all of it, is probably beyond my [current] abilities. I'm just...

I believe the saying is "this is the way".

There's one in every group, no?

    Fix crossthreaded, threads?

Y'all are all right, as long as the back threads hold, that's what matters, right? Now, while we're here, do they make heli-coils/thread repair for through holes, i.e., what if the helicoil is longer than the hole?

    Fix crossthreaded, threads?

    Didn't know about that, thanks!

    Fix crossthreaded, threads?

A tap from the back won't wipe out the front threads, will it? By design it should "realign" the bad threads on the front side?

Welding in new motorcycle swing arm/engine mounts?

I won't say that the OP is not deserving of some help but something else should be noted. The OP wanting to cut and weld onto a motorcycle frame is the same person that couldn't figure out the solution to transfer existing holes in a stair stringer onto a new tread. Not knocking this person but...

Welding in new motorcycle swing arm/engine mounts?

Yer killin' me, Chris! But I know you're right...if that spacer/pad was sanded down, the new swingarm (4mm wider overall, to the best of my measurements) would probably fit. I'll see if there are some pros in the area that would be willing to tackle it, just wanted to get an idea of what I'd be...

    Fix crossthreaded, threads?

Alrighty, gang, got another one. This is also not life-or-limb, but it's nagging me and I'd like to fix it properly, if within my scope! Got a crossthreaded bolt, and it will only go in sideways. I'm guessing a tap is out at this stage, correct? Is a heli-coil or some sort of thread insert...
