How to align newly drilled holes with old, or, how to fill holes for (re)drilling? (deck treads)

Trying to source the pins as we speak, so far these wooden nails look like they may be my best (albeit pricey) bet?

Welding in new motorcycle swing arm/engine mounts?

I'm sure I would lock my computer up if I attempted to multiquote all the good comments here, but I will point out to @Chris_Hamilton that I knew somebody was gonna suggest cutting and welding onto the existing mount! Well, the mount ideally needs to be wider between "the ears" to accommodate...

Welding in new motorcycle swing arm/engine mounts?

Gulp, ok, here's a pic roughly showing what I'd be up against. Cut out the old mount(s), and weld the new ones in.

That seems to be the concentrus, er, consensus!

How to align newly drilled holes with old, or, how to fill holes for (re)drilling? (deck treads)

Good suggestion, but this project (my first stair attempt!), has gone off the rails from the start, and my precision wasn't where it needed to be, I think the mustard would end up smearing, because the treads need to be in PERFECT alignment with whatever voodoo marks I was using to begin with...

How to align newly drilled holes with old, or, how to fill holes for (re)drilling? (deck treads)

I did find some buttons online, but they start at 1/4", and ideally I need 9/64", so I'd hafta fab up some kind of adapter, if I went that "rout"!

How to align newly drilled holes with old, or, how to fill holes for (re)drilling? (deck treads)

BLAMMO! "Things you never knew existed and can't possibly live without." Thank you! (Edit: googling that showed me that @Jgaz was "on point", too, with his mention of transfer punch!)

How to align newly drilled holes with old, or, how to fill holes for (re)drilling? (deck treads)

Hmm, I like that! Silly question, but if using finishing nails, I would need to make sure they are longer than the holes in the stringer, correct, so they don't get lost in there? (And looking like long matchsticks (or dowels, if i can find the right size) and wood epoxy might do the trick...

Line boring, thanks for the knowledge boost! And I agree with you, this is probably one best left for the pros!

I like that approach, thank you!

Welding in new motorcycle swing arm/engine mounts?

I need slightly wider mounts for a custom project. Once the old mounts are cut out, would you weld in new mounts that have no thru hole, then use some sort of contraption to drill through both mounts to make sure the thru holes are aligned with each other? Or weld in mounts that have through...

How to align newly drilled holes with old, or, how to fill holes for (re)drilling? (deck treads)

Say you are finally getting back to your going-on-four-years deck stair project, and you got hasty and misaligned one (two) of the treads. So you remove the tread, get ready to put the new tread in place properly, how can you be sure the holes you drill in the new tread will line up with the...

    Looking for test lead clips

Thank you! saw those, but they have the "little" .08" diameter opening (which led to me, "oh, there are 2 different sizes???") done/will do more, they may be able to "point me in the right direction! And here I thought the "rare" ones I seek were somehow superb, but I can see the drawbacks as...

    Looking for test lead clips

This reminds me of my subset of rules/practices: 1) if i want it, it's going to be extremely hard-to-find, and when i do find it, it's gonna be more than i would expect to pay for the equivalent, mainstream item 2) once i ultimately purchase it, i will be pleased with the aesthetics of the...

    Looking for test lead clips

I'm having trouble finding just the alligator clips that fit this style test lead. Is there a name for this type of test lead? Thanks! (Edit...appears it's just a 4mm banana plug, the point on the probe is what was throwing me off...well, that and the look of the tension springs surrounding...

Preferred "tool" to clean gasket mating surfaces?

(Update...switched to the steel brush, much better, not harming the surface, that I can tell...also ordered the hobby knife chisel blades, still nervous about using those, but may hafta get over it if the brush (sprayed with brake cleaner) alone can't cut the REALLY embedded spots!)
