Just finished the Prentiss No. 19. If i had to do it over i think i would have went with a flat paint on this model but still turned out fine and operates as smooth as can be.

What would be a good grease, wax, lubricant to apply to the main screw/nut, between the swivel base and under the dynamic slide rails?

Have the opportunity to purchase what i believe to be a Charles Parker 386 with 6" jaws, double swivel, 174 lbs. If future pics turn out to show no major issues what would a fair price be. Not looking to resell this.

Just wanted to confirm prior to painting that a vise that has been previously applied with BLO will accept primer and paint accordingly. Secondly, is there a period of time that should elapse between the two? Reason being i do not think that i applied a significant amount of BLO to the pieces...

I was wondering if something like an enclosed thrust bearing washer placed between the dynamic slide and the spindle on this old Lewis 55 or other similar designed vises such as Prentiss etc. would make the action smoother/less resistant.

Cope - From my limited experience i don't see any damage, cracks etc. Are the jaws are in good shape i presume? If so i would expect it to clean up just fine.

G-man; Drives - Thanks for the advice as always. Are those hard to reach areas something that most would prime or paint or just apply some BLO.

Other than media blasting (which i don't have access to) or an e-bath, what would be the best way to remove any rust build up from inside the static body of a vise, inside the slide or within a swivel base such as a Reed? The problem i'm encountering is that i just really cant get to these areas...

Overall a good week picked up the Prentiss #19 and today picked up a Wilton #1765 for 50.00. Handle is bent (really bent) but overall in excellent shape. I will straighten the handle on the hydraulic press and repaint. Should be as good as new.

No, there is not any damage and it seems to be overall in excellent shape. Ill post a few more pics from different angles shortly. As always thanks for the insight.

Picked up a nice old vise off of CL this week. Paid a little more than i would have liked but for 47.00 still couldn't pass on it.
