    The VISES of Garage Journal

Jim Reed - Could you explain what you are referring to when you say the fixed holes date the vise to pre 1919? Are you referring to this setup? If so, what is that determination based upon?

    Thoughts on these Vises

NY - There is usually an abundance of older quality vises on CL in my area, south central PA. In searching your area you should be able to find a decent Parker, Reed, Athol, Yost etc... that is mechanically sound and will last you for years to come

    Thoughts on these Vises

I would agree with G-Man or keep searching online or at local auctions. I can find older machinist style vises around here that may need some refurbishing but are mechanically sound for the same price or less than what those are going for.

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Outlaw - This is mostly on a flat surface and i will try a flap wheel as suggested. I see that they have different grits depending on how aggressive one would like to be. I will see what i can come up with in regards to the rest to work with. Thanks

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Apologies in advance if i should post this elsewhere, but as i am familiar with posting on this thread and receiving insightful responses i was looking for advice in what disc/wheel would be best suited on an angle grinder to remove a bead of weld off of a vise. I would like to have some control...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Trying to restore a Parker 976 i picked up over the weekend and looking for information on two parts. First, does anyone know what would be the correct screw sizing that would hold the retaining collar in place? Second, am i to assume that this model came with a wrench for the swivel base? if...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

Picked up a Parker 976 at auction today for $45.00 all and all in very nice shape. Two issues; one of the screws on the retaining collar had broken off. What would be the best way to extract said screw? Second the dynamic jaw had been welded on to the slide but i see no cracks, breaks to the...

VISE REPAIR 101 all vise repairs, lubricants, sources for parts and the tricks to fix

I have recently read a post (that now eludes me) stating that there may be a thread dealing with the selling/purchasing if vise parts. Other than the classified section does anyone know if such a thread does exist? My search did not produce any matches.

    The VISES of Garage Journal

Looking for help to try to identify the Parker vise. I assume it is either a 6" or larger vise due to the the two screws holding the retaining collar in place. What is puzzling to me is the placement of or lack of centering of the U.S.A. Every one i have seen the U.S.A is directly centered...
