How good are you now with the spool gun on that material range? Mig aluminum is FAST, designed for production. It will require quite a bit of skill especially with outside corner joints on the lower end of your stated thickness range.

My suggestion? Unless he/you have an emotional attachment to that thing, go get him a Stihl BG86. Also...starting fluid on small 2 cycle engines isn't real good for them.

I have an 8, it is borderline too big for even a 22" drill press I have. I'd strongly recommend a light oil and not grease on the screw, as the grease will just collect chips.

Me personally, I wouldn't pay scrap value for it. If you need a beater for a welding table so be it, otherwise chalk it up to a learning lesson. It's nice to have nice things.

Which ever bean counter decided that they should flatten the ends on those instead of installing proper handle ends....really takes away from an otherwise nice piece of equipment.
