In for info....I have the same stands as backups, but jack (with an adapter) on the pinch and support else where with the stands. I really like their flat nature.

The problem most likely is that you are transferring load through the magnet. You need to recess the magnets. While I do own arbor presses with axial and radial holes in the ram, it is nice to leave them solid. What press do you have? I'd suggest a cup/cap that fits around the ram with tooling...

It needs some moderate machine work to fit replacement jaws. The current ones would be removed via cutting them out. With care you could cut sharpen up those jaws with a file. Unless you are hell bent on using it, I'd clean it up, put it on a shelf and find a more practical, less fragile...
