    Knipex Cobra 150 or 180?

As it happens I have two 250mm cobras. And as weird as it may sound - I have never considered getting the smaller versions. Haven't seen the need for them.

Changing the 5-link system on the front end in my snow crawler. Mount for the upper links being born. Surprised I hit the joint with the welder - being both far and near-sighted truly *****. These days I only weld few times a year, it doesn't help. The method I use is similar when ******* drunk...

    Knipex Cobra 150 or 180?

Since you already have the 250 I would pick the smaller one. But of course, this being Garage Journal the only correct answer is - both! :)

Why American tool companies struggle to stay competitive

I have been rather surprised seeing tool making videos from the U.S. posted here in the past. Even some of the stuff from Snap On. Most of it looks like one would expect from the 1960's. And the OP makes good points. BTW Knipex, according to wikipedia is: Perhaps the Knipex family isn't too...

    Cutting metal roofing

Yesterday I met a buddy who was helping his brother in law replacing a metal roof. He was amazed some guy came with his circular saw and some good or "special blade" and they cut all the corrugated metal with it like "butter" he said. Best invention since the wheel he said. Possibly the same...

Best pliers for removing nails/screws/metal from tires?

Sorry I misunderstood your comment, you are of course correct. I just picked random picture from the web to post -- these come in many shapes and sizes. Not sure what the correct term is, concrete nipper, end cutter or tower pincher.. Sometimes I have use the very end of the cutting edge by...

    ZMotorsports Shop Projects 2.0

I use XL and it took some doing getting used to them, but I really like using them now. Quick search on Amazon came up with some XXL/2XL options, I also got one hit for 3XL medical gloves - with at least one reviewer stating they truly are 3XL. Perhaps there is something out there you could use.

    ZMotorsports Shop Projects 2.0

Been watching your building project, garden, drainage, your work in the shop. It's all very impressive. It's clear you don't like hack-jobs. :) Loved your explanation about ring & pinion adjustments a while back. I have over hundred of such under my belt, from small cars to tractor trailers and...

The GDS Skunkworks, 4 FN 27's Shop Projects

When I wrote the question I was thinking about youtube channel. Please take this with a grain of salt - I am most certainly no expert. But it seems to me if one want's to reach many people - videos are the way to do it these days. Case in point, I recently found this guy in Australia who is...

What to use to seal old compressor head?

Why not try high temp RTV again, I have had great luck using it on compressor manifolds and cylinder heads and valve plates. Just like with a gasket or whatever sealing method you use, surfaces need to be clean and flat. Then give it 12 hours to cure for good measure. Chances are you need only...

20 ton wheeled excavator was doing too much figure skating on the frozen ground. Decided to try to slow her down. Used 12x40mm flat bar. Could have used more amps but 200 was all I had. Works quite well actually.

    Critizise my building ideas.

I think you correct, many wouldn't like the idea of living in such building. Obviously I am trying to keep the cost down, it may be lack of imagination or design skills on my behalf - to make this place more appealing will increase cost. I don't think it's worth it to do so. It's likely when I...

    Critizise my building ideas.

Must have been memorable trip for a kid back then. Yes I think it's fair assessment Iceland is exotic place. Parts of the highlands have been used by NASA for study and training of astronauts, they said it was as close Mars landscape they could get here on earth. The lot where I plan to built...

    Critizise my building ideas.

Thanks! I am trying to minimize transmission of odors with this design. I am counting on the two SIP walls + the clean garage area between the home and the shop to do the job. I think I need it. I know the problem from friends attached garages and also from workshops with office spaces. Someone...
