Wilde Tool & Forge Co., Hiawatha, Kansas

OK, I'll play! Here's one of my favorite examples of the Thorsen VeeGee pattern - Not a great specimen (you should have seen it before the electrolysis treatment!), but very hard to find wearing the Wilde brand- in fact I only have this one.

Engine Crane / Hoist / Cherry Picker & Stand Recommendations?

I really like my crane (same as HarborFreight but a different Chinese brand) works great, good reach, BUT from your description of what you're doing I don't think it has the size or muscle you need. And, my use is very occasional - a few times a year. Spend up to something bigger and stouter.

    DMM accuracy question

So true. Like it or not, every conductor is an antenna, and every group of conductors is a phased array.

Help me spend ~$60 at HF?

But....but going in person so you can stroll around and laugh at all the **** is half the fun! (def. "****" noun: HF merchandise that you would never buy or accept as a gift)

Opinion of used Ridgid sliding miter saw

I have almost the same Ridgid saw, and It sounds like a good deal to me. I paid about $500 on sale at Home Despot for mine new with the MSUV ( Miter Saw Utility Vehicle), which having used it for some years now I consider a necessity. I think it helps maintain the saw's alignment by keeping...

    2022 Garage Sale Thread

As I think about it, I've never before bought anything at an estate sale that I didn't take with me immediately, so the problem never arose. Clear the house is the objective all right, but so is maximize payment to the heirs - oh, and to the sales folks. On deeper thought, they only make a...

    2022 Garage Sale Thread

I went to an estate sale yesterday, no tools of interest, but found a glass dining table, 4 x 6 1/2' and best of all, 3/4" thick glass. It was priced about twice what I thought it was worth. Since today is the last day, half price day, I tried to get them to give me the half price yesterday...

I need help. I have to get my tools appraised due to a divorce and I cant find anyone that will do it?

Yup. When I got married, she wanted a prenup. No problem, sez I. Signed it, never even read it. Not til some 20 years later I ran across it by accident, thought, gee I wonder what this says... turns out it's essentially the state law here which prevails unless there's a document to the...

    2022 Garage Sale Thread

Went to the first sale I'd been to in many moons ... what I actually wanted was already gone, but I picked up a nice little 4" vise and a couple of nearly-full cans of spray paint for $13. Anyone know whether the "ACE" is private-labeled for Ace Hardware? or..? There's also an M stamped into...

    Post up your Thorsen tools!

Nice find! I repainted an S-K box of about that vintage with Rustoleum Hammered 7211 Deep Green and it was a good match. Home Dopot had it on the shelf.

Hey, I know this one! It's a surgical driver for artificial joints, and the brand is Synthes. I have a Synthes 11mm combo in my VeeGee collection; don't know whether it was manufactured by Thorsen, or just licensed. The Synthes logo on mine appears to be laser etched.

I guess I should have gone into more detail. You are correct that some tiles are porous and will wick water. The ones I have are very hard, obviously high-fired, and impervious. I call them quarry tiles because I think that's the term I've heard applied to non-glazed tiles of similar...

Bad idea -wood (and bricks too) wick up water. Use tiles - I have some quarry tiles about 6x6 and close to an inch thick. I use them to keep stuff up off the wet floor. They're impervious to water

    14th annual GJ Secret Santa!

Merry Christmas! I opened mine Christmas Eve - family tradition - and MOAO made a beeline for the set of Craftsman screwdrivers. She's been complaining about it getting harder to find a screwdriver that's not trashed out- well, problem solved! The grease gun has a need awaiting it, and wh...
