I did the same thing, just spliced in about 8 foot of the same gauge wire. Could have bought the connectors and replaced the wire altogether but after shrink wrapping the splices looks and works great.

I keep mine in an outbuilding in case of fire. I do keep small, heavily used items like WD-40 and such in an interior cabinet in the shop. You may look into a fire cabinet, they usually have a 1 hour fire rating and are best for storing indoors...

I built mine 50 wide so I could have two roll up doors in the front with a covered driveway, greatly increasing the number of cars I can have under cover. The extra width also allowed me space to build offices and a bathroom on one end.

I use two, each 48" deep by 96" wide. You can never have too much width when working cars.

4 post with a rolling jack unless you like crawling on your hands and knees to set the lift arms. I'm just too old for that now.
