    garden tractor mounted generator

I have been kicking around the idea of buying a generator for emergency power outage, mostly in case if it happened in winter to keep the house warm. This would be a down the list purchase, just thinking about for now. I recently got my new garden tractor, a Simplicity Legacy xl. I ended up with...

    pressure washer, gas vs electric

First off, I'm use to commercial grade steam cleaners so either will not meet what I'm use to. In the future I'd like to buy a 220v steam cleaner from say Northern, but not for a few years. For know I'm thinking a big box store cold water special, $400 on the extreme top end of the budgeted...

am I asking a fair price

Quick background. About 10 years ago my buddy and I built a shop together. The building is his with most of the stuff inside mine. We did a lot of side work together plus working on our own junk. Last few years I have done less and less there. He has pursed side work to the point he LLC the shop...

Knipex or wiha snap ring pliers

So I'm thinking about upgrading to a one piece snap ring plier. I have a Mac 12 piece convertible set which I think is made by Wilde. They work fine, but I hate how the pivot screw will keep loosening up on a stubborn snap ring. Even the 1/4 turns ones loosen up. I'm guessing it is a horse a...

    how to clean files out?

I have never found a good way to clean metal out of my files. A small wire seems to do something, but not much. I have a fair number of files that I don't think are junk, it is just they are clogged up. Any tips?

    Lincoln tombstone from HD

So I have decided when I break down and replace my wire welder I'm going to buy a miller 211 and a tombstone. My question is, are the ones at HD cheapen in anyway compared to one from say airgas? I would rather buy one off of CL since I'm pretty sure it is state law that every farm must own one...

    underground air line

Me thinking out loud here. I'm looking to move this spring and this idea popped in my head. Right now the plan is looking like looking for a place without a garage so I can build what I want. It would be basic car storage and used as a light duty shop until I build a real shop down the road...

Missing tool of the day rant

I noticed today my 18" USA Blue Point adjustable and 24" Rigid pipe wrench are gone. I keep my big wrenches on a lower shelf of my main workbench at work. I'm the only one in the shop so I really don't think they were stolen. Couldn't tell you the last time I used the pipe wrench. The 18"...

    Shopkey vs the others.

I know there are pretty good number of threads about alldata vs mitchell, but I rarely see a word said about shopkey other then it isn't the best organized. I'm shopping around right now and see shopkey is much better price then I thought at $130 a month. I have no front runner favorite so if...

Upgrading cordless drill from CM 19.2

I know cordless drills have been talked to death here, but this question was poised to me. Co worker's brother wants the best bang for the buck to upgrade from his craftsman 19.2 drill. He says it just isn't powerful enough. First brand that came to my mind was rigid since they seem to be...

    Klein nutdrivers, any good?

I see enough post here saying their screwdrivers are too soft for mechanic work, but any ideas how their nutdrivers hold up? Kinda thinking I want a set.

Cordless tool what would you do

I have Milwaukee V28 drill, impact and sawzall and one 3/4 good battery between them. The impact has the most use, but as far as can tell, still is fine. The sawzall I got at the same time. I has modrate use, but still looks like new. The drill I bought a year ago, use maybe 10 time. New...

Good way to start out the day.

Bobcat is so good at sticking grease zerks in holes that you can't propperly rotate the coupler off, intead I have to just yank. I wonder why I use to go thre couplers ever three until I found the ones I use now. When to grease a machine with 200 hrs, one fitting didn't take grease. I went to...

Super dumb question, what are dykes?

I never really heard this term until coming here and on CL. I understand it is a nickname for a common pilers, but which one? Needle nose, linemans, side cutters? When ever they list dykes on CL, it is aways a picture of three different pilers.

Is there a vise considerd the BIIGGEST?

For those with a good memory, I have a king wilton. While it is a monster, I see reeds and athols just as big. The big ridgid that Lump posted a week or so just makes me drool. So is there a holy grail of the giant vises, the biggest of the biggest, or is just a wash between the biggies. I...

where to find 7" twisted wire wheel

That is if they exist. I have a 7" bench grinder I currently run a 6" wheel on. It works but is noticable smaller. I have found one standard non twisted wheel I think from grainger. I have looked everywhere I can think of. I guess my question is two fold. I have a 6" block, older with open...

    Anybody recognize this box

http://greenbay.craigslist.org/tls/3185237053.html Hope I did this right, anyways I saw this on CL and the side and the riser look right, but what about the roll cab? The pictures are crappy. The closes thing I can think of is the old blue point krb and kiq boxes from the early 2000's that...
