Chin up bar from the rafters?

This is Garage Journal, people. OP will need to start with a full-polish 1" titanium bar, and somehow get hold of a cnc machine to make custom brackets. Then, the joists will need to be reinforced with hurricane brackets (to say nothing of the sistering, already mentioned). He will need custom...

Why did tool cabinets get so expensive?

Not sure where you're finding evidence of a weak dollar... Everything I'm reading says the dollar is very strong right now. https://www.morganstanley.com/ideas/the-strength-of-the-us-dollar-investing-risks-2022

Why did tool cabinets get so expensive?

I mostly agree with you. I think you proved my point about my opinion being unpopular. But I don't think the problem is with working class raises. It's the owners and stockholders. All publicly held companies are required by law to put the interest of their stockholders first - which means...

Why did tool cabinets get so expensive?

Unpopular opinion but tool boxes among other items have been underpriced for many years. Imagine how much toolboxes would cost if manufacturing hadn't all been moved by the corporations to China from 1970 to present. I'm sure someone here can track an old Sears ad and see what it would cost in...

Why did tool cabinets get so expensive?

I live in CT and support this. Imagine you live on a corner lot, and all your neighbors cut through your driveway to save money. That's basically what NY and MA do with our state. Wish we could have got tolls on the interstates to help pay for road maintenance . Maybe someday.

Why did tool cabinets get so expensive?

The 2018 China tariffs, definitely. But the dollar is very strong against the yuan.

PSA - Plug that unused gas valve!

Agree. I had gas in a couple of rentals, never could get comfortable with it. Then a few years ago a utility outside Boston over-pressurized the gas pipes and burned up a bunch of houses. When we shopped for houses a few years ago, natural gas was an instant "no". Intellectually I know it's...

Looking for small hard wedges to help separate engine and transmission

Great progress! Now it's just a matter of time!

Looking for small hard wedges to help separate engine and transmission

The idea is to hold the engine immobile, while bouncing or levering the side of the transmission furthest from the engine (for maximum leverage). A point made in another post is correct, you need to identify where the alignment dowels are and focus on those areas. You can spray some penetrating...

Looking for small hard wedges to help separate engine and transmission

I agree, check for an additional bolt. If you're sure you've got them all out here's how we used to do it (Subaru was the worst btw): Leave that putty knife in there. Now, go to the opposite side of the housing, and work another putty knife in there. Put your floor jack under the far end of the...

Do You Have So Many Tools You Forget Where You Put Them?

Thanks guys, I found it in the drawer with the voltmeter. Whoever used it last should have put it in pliers drawer #2 where it belongs. ;)

What’s everyone’s favorite spray cleaner for stainless steel BBQ grills?

Windex and a microfiber cloth. I keep it covered and wipe it down a couple times a year, whether it needs it or not.

The One Tool You Cannot Have Too Many Of

Diagonal cutting pliers. I never throw away the dull ones (Channel lock with the blue handle). I just distribute them all over the place. Also did anyone mention hammers? I must have at least 30 different ones and yet find my self hanging a picture, pounding the hanger in with the back of a set...

Do You Have So Many Tools You Forget Where You Put Them?

Has anybody seen my 10" red handle Snap-On wire crimpers? Last seen in the vicinity of a low voltage outdoor lighting project.

Cheap linkable lighting for shipping container

Yikes, like dominos? Rare earth magnets are incredibly cheap and strong. I guess you would want to keep the carried weight to, what, 10% of load capacity? Assuming flat, smooth surfaces on both sides.

    How to Remove Set Screw

    What is this?

This thread is giving me flashbacks of pinched fingers lol. I still have a pair of those pliers (also Mac Tools) but always found it easier to just use vise-grips for the springs.
