Repairing 70’s chest lid from dog chewing

I like this suggestion. It's not a 'fix' per say but its damn close and if it covers the damage it'll let me delay until the timing's better. Very nice.

Repairing 70’s chest lid from dog chewing

Thanks for the glue and sawdust tip, never tried it myself only heard my dad mention it once. And yeah replacing just the outer inch or so is a thought. I mean at this point I think sanding and redoing the entire top if the original is used, would be the way to go. I also though that perhaps...

Repairing 70’s chest lid from dog chewing

Ahoy! So a dog chewed on the corner of the lid to a Lane hope chest from the early 70’s, I have not been able to identify the type of wood, but it does appear to be laminated and its def a soft wood so logically a pine. Anyway the wife was understandably upset, the way I see it theres two...

Champion 3000 (RW) generator, won't start Pt. 2

Ugh.. I think I'm done with this thing. Put it all back together after re-checking all the carb jets and passageways. Still back fires right out of the intake. Maybe I can get 50 bucks for it,

Champion 3000 (RW) generator, won't start Pt. 2

As far as lash goes, once re-assembled there is a small amount on the intake side. Couldn't find my feelers yesterday but it wasn't much. Exhaust side was tight. It's possible I got the push rods swapped.

Champion 3000 (RW) generator, won't start Pt. 2

So there’s only the one valve stem cap(?) you can tell from the wear that that intake side never had one. I removed the cap for this pic, it was covering the valve at the top

Champion 3000 (RW) generator, won't start Pt. 2

I noticed that.. both lock nuts and the screws themselves are good and tight.

Champion 3000 (RW) generator, won't start Pt. 2

This is exactly what I'm thinking now. I have noticed the exhaust open, then close and right before it's closed the intake begins opening. But the weird spot is when the intake closes the exhaust has this small bump that is probably enough to cause an escape during the compression stroke. I...

Champion 3000 (RW) generator, won't start Pt. 2

By turning the flywheel by hand. Sorry if it sounded like I was grabbing the crankshaft directly.

Are you talking about red versus blue?

Champion 3000 (RW) generator, won't start Pt. 2

Actually.. just did that. Did not see anything out of the ordinary.

Champion 3000 (RW) generator, won't start Pt. 2

Since the original thread started getting heavy, I thought i best to start a new one, especially since the actual question at that time was different than now. Champion genny circa 2006-ish, won't start. It was backfiring but so far today it hasn't. What's been done: Carb, Re-pulled carb...

    Water in hydraulic fluid..

Yeah insofar as how this water got in there it was definitely thrown towards the unplugged dipstick by the lawn roller splashing. Either thanks guy, I'm sure it's fine now.

    Water in hydraulic fluid..

Yeah sorry, model 3184. One of the last models before MTD bought 'em out. Anyway I threw a couple quarts in there and ran it for about 30 seconds or so then killed and re-drained. Had a small bit of froth come out.

    Water in hydraulic fluid..

So yesterday was rolling the driveway with the Cub and a bump mustve dislodged the dipstick.. because I noticed the whole *** end wet. Promptly parked and pulled the drain plug.. maybe a 1/4 cup or so of water preceded the oil. IDK where the pick up tube is inside this unit but I assume some...

Generator won't start, back fires instead. Valves?

Early last year the first.. or maybe second time we lost power and needed it, it did not want to idle correctly. It was hunting a bit, so I ended up giving her a bit of choke to even it out. That time we were without power for about 3 days so it ran a bit rich for that entire time. A week or so...

Generator won't start, back fires instead. Valves?

Wondering.. is there a difference between backfiring through exhaust and thru intake? Like different causes?

Generator won't start, back fires instead. Valves?

Yeah pulling the flywheel might be next.

Generator won't start, back fires instead. Valves?

Ok so brake clean right into the carb had no discernible effect. This is the first time I'd had it backfire with the air filter cover off, and it came back thru the intake. Very white and smoky but I imagine a lot of that was burning brake clean?
