What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I probably watched your video. It's a simple concept, but it was interesting to see how different people constructed their wheel cribs.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Some of the suspension bushings have through bolts which are supposed to be torqued when the car is sitting at ride height. In the past I would use ramps in the front and then try to stack blocks of wood, bricks or whatever I had laying around to try to get the car level. The wheel cribs make...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I got a screw in my tire driving to work on Friday, so I plugged that. Then I grabbed some 2x4's at Lowes and threw together some wheel cribs.

I like the Icon light a lot, but I wish the lights had replaceable li-ion batteries. It ***** when they die and then you have no light until they're charged up again. I guess you're supposed to keep spare lights handy to use while the others charge... or work faster and get everything done...

My auxiliary jack showed up today from Amazon. It's from Bestool, who I've never heard of before. I was looking for a jack that would go low enough to fit under a mid-rise lift. It's actually pretty stout and is rated for 3k lbs. I only bought one to check it out.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Got my new mid-rise lift installed, so I'm pretty excited about that. Stacking the 2.75" and 5.5" riser/adapters puts the roof of the car about an inch away from the light fixture when it's sitting on the locks in the highest position. There's plenty of room under the car to comfortably...

New MaxJax Install Using Anchor Bolt Locations from Older Install?

Well, I think I got it all put together last night. I called Bendpak and spoke with the rep. The hoses thread in tightly from the start, so I was just being overly cautious. The rep said if the connection leaks when I start up the pump, I can get new hoses and/or a new flow divider under...

New MaxJax Install Using Anchor Bolt Locations from Older Install?

To follow up, I did receive the lift a couple of weeks ago. I haven't been able to work on it as much as I would like due to vacation and some other prior commitments. One of the first things I did was check to see if the lift was going to line up with the anchors in the floor. It was a bit...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Good idea! I'll put some blue loctite on them this weekend. The door has all of the proper carriage bolts with the serrated nuts. I made sure to inspect them all. I can't explain why this one came loose. You know, it's one of those things we talked about a few times. We've just never put the...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I had a scary moment yesterday morning opening the garage door. The door lifted normally, but when it stopped at the top position, I heard a metal clanking sound followed by the sound of a small metal object falling onto the hood of my car. I turned around and noticed that one of the garage door...

New MaxJax Install Using Anchor Bolt Locations from Older Install?

I think that's what I'm going to do. It'll move the post in a little over 5 inches. (y) I made the template last night, which showed me how screwed up the post is against the wall. I'll move the this post inwards and drill 3 new holes. Unfortunately, the hole that deviates the most from the...

New MaxJax Install Using Anchor Bolt Locations from Older Install?

Thanks, I could probably do that. Do you have a MaxJax or is that a full size lift? I'll try to put a template together tomorrow. It's probably a good idea to see what I would be working with. Tonight I tried to put an outline of my smallest car on the garage floor and marked the lift points...

New MaxJax Install Using Anchor Bolt Locations from Older Install?

So the the guy that I bought my house from had a MaxJax installed in the garage. I wanted to buy a new MaxJax M7K kit and wanted to know what your thoughts are on installing a new kit using the old anchor bolt locations. I would prefer to do this rather drilling new holes into the concrete. The...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I took the zinc plating a step further and added yellow chromate. It took some time to find the right mixture and figure out how long to dip the parts. Ruined several nicely plated bolts in the process.

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Thanks, I stumbled across these instructions which work pretty well. https://www.cmoist.com/2020/12/31/zinc-plating-on-the-cheap/ I'm not using the corn syrup, however. I've learned that too much salt and sugar causes the plating to become bumpy. After backing it down a couple of times, the...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

This weekend I learned how to zinc plate old fasteners and hardware for my restorations. I had been looking at the Caswell kit for several years, but never pulled the trigger. This past week I did a little searching and found out that it can be done with normal household materials for very...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I picked up some rear trailing arms to do a rear disk brake conversion on my project car. Then stripped them down to find one of the spindles is gouged up. Would it be worth it to run it as-is, or would you look for a replacement? If I could remove the spindle from the trailing arm, could a...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

I've been cleaning up some steering knuckles that I picked up from the salvage yard. Normally I would just hit it with a wire wheel and then powder coat. This time I picked up some Evaporust to try out. Wow, what a difference. I've always assumed that cast iron was just a dark brownish color...
