4 Post Lift in a Single Car Garage

Sorry, I'm not focused on the lift question.. That is a GREAT looking vette! Beautiful car. Can you share details about it?

What to do with used brake rotors ???

I've got a stack as well, although not as large as yours. I've threatened for the past couple of years to take them to the scrap yard (not the land fill), but I haven't done it so far. I don't have a welder, if I did, I'd probably do something with them...

    Working in the cold?

I find the older I have become, the less tolerant I am of the cold. I never much liked cold weather, but as long as I was mobile and the body was generating heat (raking leaves, etc), I could withstand the cold. One thing I've noticed is that if you can get your body heat up, the outside...

    Gaps between wooden fence panels.

Yup, looks just like mine. Every couple of years I have to replace either a rotted post or the stringers. When I have to buy new slats, I **** them up against one another and it looks really nice for a couple of weeks, until the moisture in the wood starts to dry out (I'm talking specifically...

    Gaps between wooden fence panels.

Forget the web tape. I would remove the boards and re-fit them to close up the gap and buy new ones to take up the slack. Get your wife to help you and it will go much quicker. You can probably do the whole thing in a day, easily. Problem you're having is when the fence was constructed, the...

I'm Gettin Tired of Dodging Wet Drywall Joint Compound!

Personally, I think you're going to have to pull down the tape that is separating from the ceiling, do a quick sanding of the affected area and re-tape it. Taping is not hard, just make sure to wet the tape before you apply it. If you've never done it before, it won't hurt to start learning...

I'm Gettin Tired of Dodging Wet Drywall Joint Compound!

kevin - All good information and this is pretty much what I typically do. With regard to time, the main things I'm fighting now is the weather - when its either cold or raining outside, it takes longer for the compound to set up. I've got plenty of time and I'm in no hurry, other than wanting...

I'm Gettin Tired of Dodging Wet Drywall Joint Compound!

Yup, I really need to lose the plastic box. I worked OK when I was learning. I believe I now have learned enough to be able to graduate to a better box. More drywall tools to buy!

I'm Gettin Tired of Dodging Wet Drywall Joint Compound!

Okay. Thanks. There are 2 excellent suggestions I believe will make it easier for me this evening. One - buy a Hawk. Home Depot has them and I have to buy more joint compound anyway. Two - knock the excess compound off the edges of the knife after loading it up. I'll give it a go this...

I'm Gettin Tired of Dodging Wet Drywall Joint Compound!

I usually reserve my 10inch knife for the final coat. Haven't tried it on the initial coats - might work... dunno..

I'm Gettin Tired of Dodging Wet Drywall Joint Compound!

Agreed - it is an art and I don't posses the "art". I'm much better than when I first started and there is no way I could make a living doing it (I'm too slow and I have to sand more than most). But - I'm cheaper than hiring a pro and a five gallon bucket of joint compound is inexpensive.

I'm Gettin Tired of Dodging Wet Drywall Joint Compound!

Didn't think about one of these. I'm just using a standard 12 inch plastic box that I got at Lowes some years ago. In fact, using this box is a friggin pain! Where do you buy a Hawk at?

I'm Gettin Tired of Dodging Wet Drywall Joint Compound!

Okay. I'm not the greatest at applying joint compound - let me just get that out of the way 1st. What I find most annoying is when I'm applying joint compound overhead, I'm always dropping excess off my knife. As you draw the knife along either a seam or a corner bead, I find myself having to...

Drywall **** Boards - Yes or No?

Not me. I just tape them like regular joints. Takes longer to do to get it looking smooth, but I'm okay with that.

I wish people didn't refer to my workshop as a "Man Cave"

I don't like the phrase either. I don't know why, but to me the phrase is derogatory. Can't explain it, I just don't like it. Everytime someone mentions it with regard to my shop, I simply correct them, "Its a shop".

Welding 01 Steel Drill Rod - MaxJax Lifting Point

Understand your suggestion and appreciate your input, but for me it kinda defeats the purpose of the lift. The application and use of the lift should be easier, not harder and I'm no spring chicken anymore...

Welding 01 Steel Drill Rod - MaxJax Lifting Point

GREAT information and great suggestions. Thanks! Think I'm going to put the 01 road away and go for one of the steel types you recommended.

Welding 01 Steel Drill Rod - MaxJax Lifting Point

Yup, seen all of these. Strong Strut was simply too expensive for what they were offering. I know you can't put a price on safety, but I was looking for a comparable solution that was less expensive.
