Welding 01 Steel Drill Rod - MaxJax Lifting Point

Thanks for the inputs. On the two recomendations - the low carbon HRS and the 1018 - are these rods stiff enough to handle the weight of the car? This is a heavy car, in the neighborhood of 4200lbs. I don't want a situation where the rods are going to be bending under pressure on the lift.

Welding 01 Steel Drill Rod - MaxJax Lifting Point

I'm lifting a BMW 850i with my MaxJax. The 850i has lifting points at the lower sills where you can insert a 7/8" rod and raise the car. The car is lowered, so its not feasible to get to the frame wells using the standard MaxJax lift pads. The issue is I bought an 01 drill rod and thought I...

MaxJax Install - Anchors won't bite

Hey Bob - Good to see you over here.. They only put rebar in the footers, so I don't have an issue with trying to drill thru any rebar. Thanks for the additional information. I called Wej-it this week and talked to them. Needless to say, I wasn't too impressed with their customer support and I...

MaxJax Install - Anchors won't bite

Just thought of something... When I was drilling some of the holes, during the drilling with the 7/8ths bit, I would periodically lift the bit to help pull the concrete dust out of the hole. Maybe this contributed to the hole being larger than necessary. If I screwed up because of doing this...

MaxJax Install - Anchors won't bite

Yes - I am tightening the nut against the washer and my son was holding the bolt steady - to make sure it didn't turn. The only reasons I can think of why mine failed is either the hole wasn't clean enough or I drilled a sloppy hole. Laser guide - cool... How did you accomplish this?

MaxJax Install - Anchors won't bite

I can't say the holes were perfectly clean I let my 19 year old son do it with a shop vac. Guess I should have followed up after him an insured the holes were well cleaned. Too late now, the damage has been done. Also, I made sure the bolt did not turn. I turned only the nut, so I don't believe...

MaxJax Install - Anchors won't bite

Got my detached garage built recently. Waited three months for the concrete to cure. 3000psi + fiber. Bought a new 5/8inch drill bit and a high dollar 7/8inch drill bit. Rented a rotary hammer drill and began work at 7:30 am this morning. Started early cause here in the South, it gets hot fast -...

When is My Concrete Floor Gonna Quit Cracking?

It is a shame these days but it is simply difficult to find people willing to perform at a quality craftmanship level these days. I was bitching to the contractor about how they installed my hardiboard and I got the song and dance that his crew was the best I was going to get in this area. He...

When is My Concrete Floor Gonna Quit Cracking?

Nope. They didn't cover it because when they poured, the temp was cool, then it rained and it warmed up a bit, maybe in the 70's if I were to guess..

When is My Concrete Floor Gonna Quit Cracking?

Good information and thanks. We had a good solid base of gravel and the footers were more than adequate. It was in the shade maybe part of the day, there is a pine tree that shadows in the morning and a pear tree that shades it in the afternoon.. Footers...

When is My Concrete Floor Gonna Quit Cracking?

Thanks for the feedback, guys. Yeah, I wish I had been better informed by the contractor and the concrete guys. Like I mentioned, I had them inspect the 1st crack within 3 days of the pour. You would have thought that these experienced people would have recommended to me to put in control...

When is My Concrete Floor Gonna Quit Cracking?

Just completed a 24x24 detached garage (pictures coming in a later thread..) They poured a monolithic slab the 1st couple of weeks in March. I'm in North Alabama, so they dug the appropriate footer and installed 5/8 inch rebar, gravel, vapor barrier, and concrete with fiber mesh. No wire mesh...

FYI.. I haven't yet excluded him from getting the work, but I am eager to get other quotes in order to make an informed decision. Is he more than I originally budgeted for? Yes.. Do I believe he would do a great job? Yes.. Do I believe he is high on his price? Yes.. But, he is one of the...

Can't Get Anyone to Follow Thru With A Quote

Good point, but I'm not that type of customer a contractor has to be concerned about.. I gave each one exact specific requirements as to what I wanted. I speak from prior experience as I have built an addition on my house and a nice medium sized shed, plus I have done extensive remodeling to...
