    Firefighters: simple but important question

I have a bunch of commercial grade extinguishers (Amerex ABC in various sizes) I got from my work placed around my shop as suggested. When I got them (about 2 years ago) they were recently certified/serviced. So at this point I'm guessing they are past their inspection date by about a year...

My take on wood framing Steel Building inside walls

Yes...I just built a 10' section of framing on the ground, got it vertical, attached to the floor then cut the 90 degree pieces. Also the space between the top of the wall and the ceiling I plan on doing some backlit glass work and additional lighting.

    No contractor license question

Long story on the neighbor thing that I really cant go into at this time, once it's all over (win or lose), I'll give all the details but lets just say that it's been a rough couple of years with them. Also my city has been way more than cool about all this stuff and very clear with me on what...

    No contractor license question

Lots of great info here and a lot of it has to do with issues before and during the work. I think those point are very clear and the whole liability thing is definitely a concern, especially for bigger projects. My main question was about what about "after" the work is complete. For whatever...

My take on wood framing Steel Building inside walls

Yes...I wanted the walls to be flush to the girt. It was cheaper to just cut and bend the 8' stud instead of attaching another 60' of base to the bottom of the girt. I then just screwed the plywood onto the girt and the studs. In another section I have these steel cross bar things going between...

    No contractor license question

So when I did my garage I did it under the Owner-Builder rules. The city made that very clear so I think it's OK there. I'm mainly curious because my neighbor is making noises like he is going to go after my workers doing other work that didn't require permits but still big. I'll talk to my...

    No contractor license question

So another thread got me thinking about this... Say you have work done and you have a handshake agreement with a friend to do the work or maybe a very simple document (not official contract looking). Lets say it's something big like a large outdoor patio or put in a small stacked retaining...

    Garage/driveway - cost check

My 40X60X20 built in 2019, also in SoCal including all the grading, concrete work, retaining walls purchasing the building and construction was about 2/3 your price. So I think for sure costs have gone up. My neighbor recently got a quote from the same guy who built mine and it was too expensive...

    Wiring Cart

I got this one from my work...I think it's just from U-Line.

My take on wood framing Steel Building inside walls

So the bottom is a regular steel base plate attached with some short Ramset nails. For the top angle part, the studs are 8' long but the girt height is slightly less than that. I simply cut the edges of the studs and bent them over at a 90 degree then attached them to the girt with two #14X1"...

Advice Needed for my New Dream Shop Build 40x60x16

I had similar situation as you when planning. I ended up with a 40X60X20...the 20 was because I wanted a full second floor and the cost to make the entire building 20' tall was less expensive than engineering it to have multiple heights. For plumbing as others have said...code will tell you a...

looking for feedback on garage door noise

The garage doors on my house were uninsulated and super noisy. I added insulation to them and now it's very quiet.

    New garage door install rant….sorry!!

Here is the Liftmaster on my door. Granted that I have a higher ceiling but from the looks of the sample picture you provided there may not be enough room?

    Plastic vs wood shed?

M6Z reminded me of one of the issues with my plastic shed and shelving. One of the reasons the doors don't stay shut is because of some shelving I have that has some heavy stuff on them. It is causing the plastic to bow just slightly so that the doors dont stay shut. So keep that in mind. Wood...

Anyone here build a fallout shelter?

Remember there was a Twilight Zone episode where a family built one and when a "scare" came all the neighbors basically fought to get in. Kind of like when we had a power outage years ago that lasted a couple of days, we had a generator and had some friends over. We were making margaritas...

    Plastic vs wood shed?

I have a larger 8X10 Rubbermaid shed and it is built nice but the doors don't always stay shut tightly. I usually have something leaning against it from the outside to keep it tightly shut. I also built a 10X12 shed that was basically built like a small house (wood framed) and that thing was...

Builder built garage too short. What penalty?

I think the biggest thing that the OP will have an issue with is long term regret, disappointment and dissatisfaction with the build. Regardless of the amount of money he gets back, if it's not built to what he intended/dreamed it to be, he will be forever unhappy with the build. Every time he...
