    Why do electricians leave

Every time I have to rewire something, move an outlet / fixture and I find service loops / extra wire I thank the nameless electrician / person who was in there before me. Every time I realize there isn't even enough slack to disconnect anything much less move / adjust it - I wish that person...

Broken Bolt Extraction - Welding on a Nut

Here's hoping it's not that bad. This is a Ford small block water pump bolt FYI.

Broken Bolt Extraction - Welding on a Nut

Personally I think it's the heat from the welding that actually breaks everything loose - that's my WAG. How deep is that hole? I remember having one where I had to stack nuts. We ended up using a washer + nut + washer + nut. It took a few tries before it finally came out.

Well to be fair, anyone posting / commenting on this forum is experiencing that in one way or the other.

I'm stealing that. In fact I think I've going to make a sign with that for my shop. Thanks.

    Between 485 & 705 SQ/FT The Garage / Shop / House Thread - Motivation

Old cowl vent - 20+ years in the sun tends to make plastic a bit brittle. I'm actually impressed the shop that did the windshield was able to get it back on in one piece. I wasn't that patient removing it to install the new one Bought a new jack - nothing wrong with my old one, 20+ years...

Ever do something so stupid you wonder if you should be left unsupervised?

My wife said the story sounds made up. So here's proof

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

That makes sense. A good friend was a BMW tech, then Service Mgr in a large dealership group before retiring. He opened a shop that caters just to European / German cars. 90% of all his business are return customers (who've know him for years) and most of his business is scheduled maintenance. A...

Ever do something so stupid you wonder if you should be left unsupervised?

My wife was reading some of these over my shoulder. Then reminded me of her 'favorite' scar I have. I was removing the bumper from one of the parts Broncos when I was restoring the 95. Running the air impact to remove the bumper. The nut came off, shook it out of the socket (it was HOT) and...

Sure. But on the WORST day at my place, I can sit on the front porch and look around and enjoy the absence of people.

Ever do something so stupid you wonder if you should be left unsupervised?

Where has this thread been? Does it count if you don't actually get 'hurt' or something doesn't break? 30+ years ago in the Army, I've been party to 'disposing' of piles of munitions. After smartphones and the internet became widespread (I'm sure it was just coincidence) it became SOP to have...

Can we completely replace our combo wrenches with ratcheting ones yet?

I've broken one ratcheting wrench in all the years I've been working on vehicles. It was cheap flex head larger metric - I was breaking loose a suspension bolt where the impact wouldn't fit and I was using another wrench hooked onto the open face side. It broke where it flexes - no surprise. It...

    Never fails!

I have those days all the time - but after some thought - it appears these days show up more often when I've mapped out an entire schedule of things I need to get done. Now I just plan on doing ONE thing. Sure, replacing that part should only take 30 minutes, but if a bolt is stripped, or you...

What did you do "IN" your garage today?

Meaning Rock Auto? Just curious - why's that? I've been using them for more than a decade. Never had an issue. Granted most of the stuff I buy from them is OEM or OEM Supplier quality. Internal engine parts, electrical, sensors etc. I don't buy their cheap stuff - but you can get OEM quality (or...

RA has a new VALEO 220amp for $570 - I'm assuming a rebuild will be cheaper.

2016 Mustang GT with a 1967 Fairlane body

That's epic. I've owned two S550 Mustangs. My '19 Mustang GT was one of my favorite daily drivers ever. If it wasn't for COVID craziness and a dealer paying me more to buy it than I paid for it new - I'd probably still have it.

This morning I walked past a red VFR with what looked to be the same hard bags. Weird.

buying a long term air compressor for a shop?

Depends on the tool. Some are air hogs. The new LVLP spray guns are great. But the good HVLP guns? The ones I used were air HOGS. Depends on how much use etc. Nothing worse that waiting on a compressor when using air tools - but with so many going battery powered now, who knows how common that...
