    Fujitsu mini-split quote too high?

Thanks for the insight guys, sound like it is a little different than I am used to. Especially since must of the products I am familiar with can come to the dealership. FWIW, I know there is a lot more to running a business than most people realize, and I know how bad it ***** when the...

    Fujitsu mini-split quote too high?

So... I'm really not out to beat up HVAC companies, really, but I'm curious how warranty works in HVAC then. The last two posts have mentioned the installer holding the warranty, or building some in to the price to cover warranty. In the industries I have been in during my career...

    Colora-dome

Buckminster for anyone doing that Google search, autocorrect may have got you there... More trivia, buckminsterfullerene, or Bucky Balls were also named in honor of Mr Fuller and his design. They are carbon nano spheres. Neat design, I'm curious how it has worked out too. Jason

Is it safe to assume my interior garage walls have insulation in them?

Many of them around here (N. Georgia). My last house (In NC) we built and I had a garage added to the plan. The shared interior wall was still treated as the exterior wall and was insulated. Not long after moving in here I realized that I could hear through the interior garage walls far too...

    Fujitsu mini-split quote too high?

Danski0224, I had another long reply all typed up, once again telling you that you are right about a lot of things, that since you are in the industry you should know more about it than I do, but also sharing my not so positive experiences in HVAC. I talked about these things being commodities...

    Fujitsu mini-split quote too high?

Now that I have a few minutes and a bigger screen, I want to clarify something. In this thread, I am in the context of my original reply... "I had the same experience, they price these things like traditional units. I guess the ducting / vents / air handler / remote thermostat are free with...

    Fujitsu mini-split quote too high?

His mini split install is brand new, as is mine. The swap is his house traditional split. Different quotes. I would say you are are correct that the wholesale cost is the same between them, but there is a lot more labor on a new traditional split vs a mini split, which is what I and others...

    Fujitsu mini-split quote too high?

Now having said all that, are you familiar with the requirements of a mini-split install compared to a traditional split system ? With no ducting, vents thermostat or air handler to install, why should the labor from the same company be essentially the same between the two systems ? I'm all...

    Fujitsu mini-split quote too high?

For the Mr. Cool DIY at least (and I believe most mini-splits), yes, the outside units get the power run, then there is a power / control cable that connects to the inside unit. I think the Friedrich Breeze units have an inside power cord. Jason

    Fujitsu mini-split quote too high?

On one of my quotes, when I questioned the price, they told me I could have the electrical done by someone else, and they would knock off $100. The guy who wired the building in the first place does other work in the area and said he would stop by and do it for about that. Caveat, my...

    Fujitsu mini-split quote too high?

I had the same experience, they price these things like traditional units. I guess the ducting / vents / air handler / remote thermostat are free with traditional split systems... My quotes were about the same for an 18K Trane, and an 18K Daiken. The "Trane" is actually a rebadged Gree that I...

Mr. Cool DIY A/C mini split install. Pics and questions :)

I think the answer is yes, but unless you REALLY screwed up, it will be very little and not enough to affect the operation of the unit. Jason

Mr. Cool DIY A/C mini split install. Pics and questions :)

Yeah, the Mr. Cool name is pretty cheesy, but Mr. Slim isn't really any better... OP, thanks for the thread, and please keep us updated. Many of us are very interested in the MR. Cool DIY option, I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger myself, but there isn't much out there about them... Jason

Harbor Frieght 44'' toolbox good price?

Yep, I got the 44" for $349, probably in November last year. Sounds like it drops that low a couple times a year. I would say go in to the store and compare the 26 and the 44 it you are looking at both, the 44 is very popular for a number of reasons, including how sturdy it is. Jason

Critique of initial idea for a garage apartment

Nothing looks weird about that, but I understood you to say you were doing 16 fit walls, as opposed to that barn / hip style roof. If you imagine that building going two stories up, then a traditional roof on top of that, that was what i was seeing. Just afraid of it looking tall and skinny...

Critique of initial idea for a garage apartment

Argh, I just typed a lengthy reply only to lose it... Anyway, the gist of it was, the original version of my garage was 16X24 and I am trying to imagine it as two stories. As much as I like the idea of tiny houses and always thought I could live in a storage building, you are going to end up...

MRCOOL DIY Mini Split, Seriously, I Think...

Pretty sure I am about to pull the trigger on an 18K version of the MRCOOL DIY mini split. I am put off a little by the lack of reviews, and the thing seems too good to be true, but... There aren't any negative reviews, either the things work great and almost no one bothers to post a positive...

Well, if you guys are going to MAKE me go out to the garage again... <grin> As found, haven't even dusted it off yet. Not much to look at, and I would never have thought twice about it if not for all the positive threads on these things. Can't quite read the date, maybe 9/87 ? Not...
