I used magnets I got online. They make small thin magnets that are pretty strong and if you want to remove the liner for cleaning it's a snap. Stay away from spray adhesive.

They work quite well. At least the few I have tried have. As far as longevity, time will tell. retail was 349 but I can't remember what I got for a discount. I think it was 15% off during Matco's new driver/truck promotion. Still quite expensive but the 2 larger rows are all lifetime warranty...

Probably just the nature of the beast but one thing to look for is damage on the anvil. I had a coworker that purchased a used one online a few years ago and he had the same problem. The anvil was messed up. He ordered a rebuild kit it and it solved his problem
