    Saw Stop Table Saw

indeed. i'm guessing after the patent expires, every tablesaw manufacturer will have some saw-stop-like mechanism incorporated into their design within a few years, for just a little more than what they're priced at now.

Worried my barn will be condemned- permit strategy?

how is the permitting process in CA? seems like it's pretty loose, which surprise me. don't know if it's manufactured reality tv drama, but i've watched some of the house-flipping episodes where previous owners put on additions, detached garages, elaborate porches, that aren't permitted & it's...

    Drainage Debacle

i've always been hesitant to bury drainpipe for this reason. most people use the corrugated black stuff that's fairly easy to crush. aside from cosmetics, what's wrong with just using some downspout extensions & running the rainwater away from your property? don't get me wrong, it looks like...

    Snow Blower Feedback Needed!

this one at lowe's is a best buy & is 15% off: https://www.lowes.com/pl/15-off-troy-bilt-snow-throwers/4294633085 i bought it a few years ago & it cleared ~10' of the wettest/heaviest snow i've ever seen. like you, i have a relatively small driveway & didn't need a monster snowblower. i...

Looking for input on drywall bid

agreed. i'd have him do it if if he was supplying the materials, taping & mudding, for $425. just screwing it to the ceiling isn't worth his bid. you could buy all the materials & this lift for <$200 (with a coupon) & sell it on CL when you're finished too, & still be below his bid...

    What size level?

LOL, as a "typical homeowner", i've had to repair plenty of farmed-out "professional" jobs. that said, i have a torpedo, 3' & 4' level. 3' is a USA stanley & the 4' is an empire. both are fine. i need to get a 78".

4-Way VS. 1/2" Breaker in your trunk tools.

$10 HF breaker bar here. put them in all the cars. can also be weaponized.

    Refrigerator "defrost drain" freezes up.

i did the same on my upright freezer. the drain was also clogged & i just used an old towel to soak up the water.

In the market for a new house, but.....

yep - i'd guess half of all finished basements aren't permitted.

    Greg Smith Lifts

same. summit racing also has lifts with free delivery. so you buy the lift, then do you have it delivered, & how do you get it off the truck & set up (w/out a forklift).

Painter quit with my house half painted

that is pretty awful. props for using a brush though. i'd use a roller for most of that & just use a brush for the siding ends. probably be done in three days. seems like all the hired guys spray now.

    Which table saw question

BTDT using my rickety-*** craftsman saw that looks similar to this: http://www.craftsman.com/craftsman-evolv-15-amp-10-in-table-saw/p-00928461000P?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1 be fine if you were able to bolt it down, but i could easily tip it over with a sheet of plywood or a long, heavy 2x.

    Menards going down the crapper?

curious about that too & find it difficult to believe. their regular prices are the same as the big-box stores & the big-box stores don't have sales as frequently as menards. i never see lowes or home depot run lumber/insulation/siding/roofing/etc sales as frequently as menards.

    Very Upset With Harbor Freight....

same thing happened to me a few years back. fortunately, my HF is ~2 miles away though. went to pick up a box, they said they didn't have enough staff to get it & i would have to come back tomorrow. i was a bit flustered, but nothing to get into a huge twist over, since it's a 5 minute drive...

    Lowes wood cutting?

one employee told me if it's >2 cuts, they charge for it (IIRC, it's $0.25/cut or something like that). that said, they have made more than 2 cuts w/out charging me before. most of the time, they're pretty good & the cuts are very straight. last time i went, they were off by 1" & they had to...

Gas leaf blower to clean out garage?

i use an electric on mine every month or so. it does throw dust everywhere, but gets the floor clean. i use it on my shelves first, then work on the floor. no way i'd do it if i had an exposed short-block that i was working on. mostly just getting rid of sawdust/leaves/dirt/etc.

Craftsman Table Saw (inherited) - Keep it? Scrap it?

i have the same one too (only w/out the extensions on the table). junk. very unstable if you put a sheet of plywood on it. even have to be careful ripping a 2x4. that said $50 seems right. someone could always bolt it to something more stable.

    Zoysia grass

Re: Zoyia grass seems like most either love or hate zoysia grass. my neighbor hates it & has it in his yard. he roundup'd his whole yard a few years back & then planted some nice low maintenance fescue. the the zoysia started sprouting up a few years later. iirc, the zoysia roots are ~3'...

KDAT (kiln dried after treatment) lumber worth it?

ain't that the truth...if you're buying PT lumber, you better use it asap! i have had some success with putting PT lumber on the bottom of a pile of regular lumber to keep it from warping & give it some time to dry. i'll put 1x4's as a spacer between the floor & lumber pile to help it air out...
