    16" or 24" centers?

I just saw this old house this weekend and they were talking about doing a net zero house and to improve the efficiency they used 24" oc studs instead of 16" oc. The larger spacing meant the insulation bays were larger and that less studs could be used. Wood is apparently a poor insulator and...

Need help with new bit inserts

I've been liking the Bosch Impact Tough bits, they have a little bit of texture so they seem to grab the screw heads better then my previous Dewalt and Milwaukee ones. PB swiss makes some awesome bits, but they are pricey, too much to be used in a powered driver. I only use these bits in my...

    Is multi-stage HVAC worth it?

I have the Maytag IQ drive (Nordyne inverter compressor) and I love it. it's so quiet compared to the old single stage Rheem. I would never go back to a single stage. it so much more comfortable to just have the AC chugging along at a slow speed to maintain the temp rather then having it come...

remove fresh rust stains from driveway and sidewalk?

just a wild *** thought but what about putting paper towels down on the concrete and then saturating it with Evaporust, cover with a plastic sheet and let it sit for a few hours. then just rinse away with a hose. It's environmentally safe so should not hurt your grass. Another thing is iron-x...

Ridgid 16 gallon 5hp wet/dry vac wont start

the replacement brush will not match your existing one as far as the length dimension is concerned. the existing one is worn out so its shorter. I'm guessing that the 0.25"x0.50" is the cross sectional area of the brush which is the important numbers you're looking for. The length will be...

AA and AAA batteries that won’t self destruct?

If it takes AAA or AA I now put in energizer ulitmate lithium. It costs more but it won't leak and seems to last longer when used in a flashlight in the car glove box which will kill an alkaline. It's also much lighter. I just wish they made them in D-cell sizes.

Can someone wrap a tape measure around a Milwaukee M12 handle? Need circumference

If you're looking for a small grip then the dewalt 12v would be your best bet. the Milwaukee and Bosch 12v has the batteries in the grip which is why it is so fat.

    Knipex 90 25 40 PVC Pipe Cutter

I haven't tried that one but I don't really like ratcheting scissors type of cutter. From the ones I've used the blade starts to deflect and twist as you cut so it comes out of square. I've been using this one and while occasionally I'll still get a crooked cut, its a vast improvement. it...

Knipex 81 03 230 PVC Pipe Gripping Pliers

I have it, its works good on plumbing pipe to get a grip. like when you dry fit pvc pipe before gluing and it gets stuck. easy to twist and remove the PVC with this wrench. I'm sure it has a specific use but this is the type of application I've used it on.

DIY garage door insulation in AZ

funny you should mention this. When I added the Rtech foam boards to my garage door after a about 2-3 months the spring broke and left me stuck outside. The boards feel like they are as light as air but I guess the just the little added weight is actually enough to do some damage. When I had...
