I was not advocating"pump and dump" ! Vertical wells can be closed loop also. I have heard of too many cases where horizontal loop were improperly sized. Big problem in cold regions. As I said, it is easier to add a vertical well than expand a horizontal field.

I am no soils expert, but a well at least 50' deep is going to stay about 45°F to 55°F all year. Commercial installation always do wells for the reason I posted before.
