Mystery tool - #15G Truflex - Los Angeles Ca

Found this at my local thrift for $1.99. My google-fu came up null as did a browse through Alloy Artifacts. Though some of the grey beards here would set me straight. Kind of looks like a grease gun, but the screw mechanism doesn't really make sense as it has a ball in the center of the stud...

USA Made K-D Tools Ratcheting Wrench - "Gearwrench"

Scored these at my local resale shop the other day; they had priced out huge haul of vintage tools (mostly pipe wrenches). $3 a piece for the 3 smallest ones, $5 for the larger one, so about $15 total Pretty happy with the purchase - been wanting a stubby set of ratcheting wrenches for a while...

Scored big on a Chicago Pneumatic 3/4 drive impact gun

Saw this behind the glass at my local thrift shop. Usually that means big $$$ - but couldn't see a price. Took a chance and had the girl dig it out - still no price. She offers to text the owner. I'm thinking he's gonna hit me $100-ish; comes back with $20. Sold! Made it worth the 5...

The Lista auction gods smiled upon me last week

I just upped my garage storage game big time this past week. Local auction house had some Lista cabs come up for sale. 11 total, half in great shape, half looked like they had been left outside for the last 10 years. But they all checked out at the preview. I had some reservations about...

Proto - TAC Ratcheting Crowfoot Set

Thought I would share a recent unusual find that I turned up at my local thrift shop. Its a not quite complete set of Proto TAC (Tubing Appliance Company) ratcheting crowfoots. There are 4 ratcheting mechanisms, the wrench head will snap into the ratcheting mechanism similar to a socket...

My tool haul over the last 2 weeks

Local (San Diego area) thrift store has been killing it on tools. They purchased a hardware store and have been moving through the inventory. 99.9% of it is tiawanese junk (like off-brand harbor freight) but there is some gold Last week I scored a brand new full SAE set of wright wrenches...

Chinese Quality Control at it's finest - Thanks Irwin!

Grabbed a new 10/24 tap to run some holes through some 0.125 flat bar stock for a fan bracket. I'm gonna blame the 3 (or 4) 4th of July beverages for not noticing this before I threaded the holes. :headscrat I'm going to assume by the "Made in USA with global components" they mean made in...

What the heck did I just Buy?

Picked this up at the local thrift shop for $5. Maker-mark of Kilborn & Bishop, New Haven, CT. Size-mark of 2". I have no idea what it is. I am guessing a punch to make 2" (inner diameter) circles in a piece of sheet metal? Which seems kindof speciality.... My google-fu has failed me...

Picked this beast up at my local salvation army. 73" Snapon Rollcab KRL-763 Paid $750 :shocking: well $749.53 once I cleaned out all of the loose change lurking behind the drawers. Also found a sweet old Starret Tool Makers Hammer. Probably the best part it fit (just barely) in the back on...

Vintage Tool Score - Going to be hard to Top

I was rummaging around my local Salvation Army the other day; mostly looking for old cast iron cook ware and furniture to restore. Every now and then a tool or two will sneak in, but it's rare. I've found the best deals are to be had by rummaging through the totes that are still in the process...

    Tools of Desperation

Hey, Thought I would kick of a new thread. What are your tools of desperation, or things you've managed to MacGyver and are to this day still proud of? I'll kick off with something I've been hanging on to for years; an 8mm brake caliper bolt for a Ford Explorer. I was doing some camping out...
