Quick and dirty small Snap-on box restoration

I bought a small Snap-on box for my 1/4" tools. Was covered in surface rust, which I blasted with my HF spot blaster using the kids' sandbox sand, which I think might be from Puget Sound. Tried multiple rattle can reds. Matched up to a novelty Snap-on mini-box I have. End result is that...

I like my Knipex automatic (Robogrip) pliers!

First off, I have no financial interest in any kind of automatic pliers, or tools for that matter. I'm just a hobbyist who is gradually building up a decent toolbox. I'm probably one of two or three people on this entire site that actually likes the Craftsman Robogrips. I've commented as such...

Pics of a shed shop buildup

Whew, I've been waiting a long time to start a thread like this. Before I get to the shed build, I'll start with the background. I live in a small mid-century rambler in the Pacific Northwest, and have only a one-car garage. That's a problem for someone like me (who's somewhat like you and...

What kind of floor for a shop shed?

I had a Tuff Shed built on my back patio to serve as a small shop for light metal work and fabrication. I had the flooring beefed up with 12" OC metal joists, and it's sheathed in some kind of heavy duty fiber board. The shed will house a 500lb heavy-duty Lista workbench, 600lb Vidmar tool...

Raising garage ceiling. Who to call?

I have an unfinished garage with exposed (kingpin?) trusses, and want to raise the ceiling height for a lift. Maybe convert to rafters or scissor trusses. Not sure of my options. Whom do I consult first to start the project? An architect? Structural engineer? General contractor? Carpenter?

    Vintage Emerson pulley-driven bench grinder

Very old motor, made by Emerson in St. Louis. Runs smooth. Has oiling ports for the bearings. The remote grinder does not have a belt and could use new bushings. Pickup only, no shipping.

    1968 Thor industrial grinder

Don't see these often, and a Google search doesn't reveal much. It's an ex-Boeing tool, and runs nicely. Came with a nice light. The grinder is beefy, despite it's conservative 1/3 HP rating. I'm torn between freshening it up with paint, versus leaving the patina of 45 years of hard use.

Upgrading the cheap HD "hot deals" air drill

Since the air drill and impact driver were so cheap, it left enough in the tool budget to upgrade the drill. I swapped the keyed chuck for a keyless chuck ($20). Getting the old one off was a pain. Had to use the cheap driver to knock it off (the pic shows the impact driver tightening on the...

    Flexzilla hose whip bottleneck

The swivel end of this 1/2" Flexzilla hose whip narrows down to 1/4". The picture shows the two ends of the hose. I want max flow, and am disappointed to see this bottleneck. Are all 1/2" swivel whips like that?

Screeeeeaming deal on 3M LED eye protection

My first contribution. I went to Home Depot to get the $25 impact driver + drill (thanks, OP), and stumbled into this. Discounted from $114.96 to $5. So I bought 4. I'm gonna make a killing when I flip these on eBay! Just kidding. I'm pretty sure there's an extra "1" at the front of the...

    Pneumatic hi-flow coupler question

Do the Milton hi-flow couplers have a valve, or do they get extra flow from a larger bore? If you disconnect a tool from a pressurized air hose, will the hose end keep blowing?

King Kong of retractable power cords

This is an Appleton Reelite with 12g cord. I bought this thing without really having a sense for how big it is. For scale, you can see my garden hose spigot above it, and the handle to a power washer to the right. This reel is about 200 lbs. The canister to the right is the spring motor for...

    Upgrading my fly fishing reel

Fly fishing is too expensive for what you get. If you spend good money on a quality fly reel, it should have quality parts. I'm not a zealot in this way of thinking, I'm just using it as an excuse to play with my mini-lathe using some of God's metal (Titanium). Gonna build me the world's...

    Sandvik hatchet

I got this hatchet at a garage sale for cheap. I like hatchets and axes, and figured this was worth something because it's Swedish. I get the impression the Swedes are good at chopping and cutting things. Like this set of nippers they make which I included in the picture along with the...

    HF metal cutting bandsaw abuse

I bought this old HF bandsaw off CL for $50. Made in Taiwan. Came with a lightly used Starrett blade. I wasn't sure if it was up to the task of slicing a length of Grade 5 Titanium. I didn't even know if the saw was set up correctly, I just bolted on a vice and went at it with a lot of...

Price check on jumbo Williams wrenches

I saw these at a high end frou-frou antique shop, they're Williams brand. I didn't get to pull them out of the ugly $400 stone vase for fear of breaking and buying it, so I don't know their sizes. I'd guess you could fit a grapefruit through the box end. Is this a reasonable price? Just curious.
