    Dewalt Kits at HD.

I'm seeing some kits for Dewalt cordless tools at Home Depot right now. Was looking to score a recip saw and a cutoff saw. Noticed they have a 4 tool (drill, driver, recip and cutoff) w 2 4ah batteries plus charger AND a circ saw "thrown in" for $449. Would the tools in these kits be a lower...

    Campbell Hausfeld IronForce compressor value?

I'm looking at a CH Ironforce compressor 7.5hp, 80 gallon 2 stage that was purchased and then not used (so new?). I see these things list at over 2K or maybe close to 3K. I'd be looking at significantly less than that - under 1500. Worth it?

    Filter1 still in business?

Does anyone know if the company selling Wix filters at decent prices and known as Filter1 is still in business? I've gone through the order process more than once and seemed to take my order but no e-mail verification or charges to the CC.

Looking to buy a propane powered generator as backup power for my house -- mostly the well pump.

Looking at something in the 7 to 10 kW range. Any opinions/experience with brands and reliability? Seems like the Amazon stuff (Duromax/Durostar) stuff is questionable hit and miss.

    Lighting circuit just quit.

I have a lighting circuit running 2 fixtures using 2 3-way switches. All of a sudden neither of lights works. The sequence is POWER to 3-way to 3-way to FIXTURE to FIXTURE. Checked power = good. Power to 2nd 3-way = good Power to first fixture = good. Tested with basic noncontact tester...

    Cold weather compressor use

I'm looking to set up a new compressor in my refurbed shop and wonder what folks living in cold climates do if anything to deal with low temps and compressor start up. My shop can be heated when I'm in there but piss poor insulation right now combined with a large space makes heating 24/7 not...

WTF is going on w/ lumber prices!?

I haven't been doing much building but recently fired the builder on a remodel and am now having to finish the job myself. Ugh. So I recently stopped at one of the big box stores and saw 7/16" OSB was over $16/sheet! What? I'm pretty sure last summer I saw it for half that price or less...

Tip for putting on tire chains

I figured I throw this out there as it was a godsend to me when trying to put heavy chains on my tractor tires. I saw the video on Youtube from a commercial tire chain place in Norway. Lay out the chains directly behind the wheels as close as possible to the tire and with the surface you...

    Power to table saw

I'd like to hear some suggestions about how you ran your power to a large stationary machine like a cabinet table saw. Since I need space all around the saw I can't be near a wall --- so either an extension cord to a receptacle or an overhead drop seem to be my options and both have...

    Shop wiring advice

I'm at my wit's end trying to figure out how I'm screwing up some wiring I'm trying to run in my shop. So I've come here for some/any assistance or advice any can provide and even suffer some slams if they're not TOO personal. Here's the picture: Trying to put in some receptacles along the...

    Vise info

A while back I recall one of the vise-a-holics here had put together a document/link or something that had a lot of the specs for these old beauties. Date of manufacture, size etc based on model number and maker. Now of course I can't seem to find that list and I don't remember who it was that...

I'm finishing up my shop --- and it's a multipurpose shop - woodwork to welding and vehicle/ag equip servicing. So what are your suggestions regarding the following: 1) 120V outlet placement ( every X ft; 4ft off ground?) etc 2) worth running any ceiling drop cords? 3) was going to put...

    Shop, No shop, Shop

Built a 40x60x14 shop with poured slab floor over a 3+ yr period. Then last year a fire wiped it out so we're rebuilding now. I'll try and post a string of pictures. Out of order but the last picture is BEFORE fire, then during and after. I'm still looking for the current pics or might have...

    Hi Bay lights -- value?

My local lumberyard has switched over to the E-saving lights that use motion detection to turn on (hate them - they're pathetically slow when it's cold) and have their old units for sale at $25/ea. I don't know much more about them as I was in a hurry getting other stuff and couldn't "clutter...

Another spalled concrete floor needing help

Hi. New guy here who can't figure out why he's JUST found your site!! Awesome. Well, we had a fire in our shop (40x60) that took it to the ground and even with insurance, we had to kick in more than 1/2 the rebuild cost ........ which didn't allow for new concrete work (original cost $10K)...
