Flex head ratchet wrenches - do you use yours?

Local Sears has their Craftsman flex head ratchet wrenches on sale, plus I've got a gift card left from Xmas. Just don't know how much I'd ever use them. If you've got a set, how much use do they get? What applications do you use them on. I'm not a mechanic, just a DIY guy... Thanks in advance.

If price were the same, copper or black pipe for air lines

If we ignore the price difference between copper "L" and black pipe, is there an advantage of one material over the other as far as plumbing air lines for my compressor? My lines will be run at the top of the walls/ceiling, with drops down to a working height. If I go with copper, any special...

What is a good sound deadening material for a compressor closet?

In one corner of my shop I built 2 walls to form an approximate 7' x 11' closet for my 2 stage compressor and radiant boiler. Ceiling is 10'. The two walls are 2x4 construction with 1/2 drywall facing the shop. I can still hear the compressor barking quite well when it runs. What material...

32 X 50 shop. Going to use 3/4 black pipe. Compressor sits in one corner and I need to get air to the opposite corner. Plus I'll have drops on the way to that opposite corner. Is there any advantage to continuing on from that opposite corner and running pipe back to the point where the...

Drywall Glue - worth the time and money

So I'll be putting up drywall on my walls and ceiling in the new detached shop soon. I've never had to deal much with drywall before, so while researching the basics, I see there is now a "drywall glue" that can be used. Is this worth the time and money? Would this be beneficial to a...

Speakers - In the wall or sitting on a shelf

Currently working electrical for my hobby shop. Will be running speaker wire to the four corners (30x48). How well do in-the-wall speakers hold up over time? Or should I build shelves in each corner with jacks so I can replace with Craigs List speakers as needed? Plan is to dust of my old...

Possible oven in the shop, will 10-3 and 30amp cover me?

Currently wiring the new shop. Would some day like to try a little powder coating. What wire / breaker combo will cover me best...

Will is simple densifier or fancy epoxy affect radiant heat performance?

Ok, the foam is down, the pex is laid, the mainfold is in and holding pressure...just waiting on my concrete guy to tell me what day he's coming. Looking ahead to floor coverings: Will a 2 part 100% solids epoxy impact the performance of my radiant heat? Will a densifier/hardner like the...

Question in General...should have put it here - Pex/rebar

Does your PEX go Over or Under your rebar?

I've seen it done both ways. Pros/cons of either? My initial thought was to fasten my pex to my foam and put the rebar on chairs above the pex. This gets the rebar nearer the center of the 5" pour and keeps the Pex away from the control cuts. Thoughts?

    PVC drain pipe size question

Ready to start putting in the drain pipe and stub for the two floor drains before concrete starts. This detached work shop has no running water to it...and likely never will. Only reason I'm putting in floor drains is if I have to park a snow packed vehicle and want it to melt off over night...

Pex size - whats the current rage?

Talked to a local HVAC guy last evening about radiant heat in my new shop. He suggested going with 5/8" pex. Less loops on the manifold he said. Everything I read pretty much talks about 1/2" pex concrete slab. I see they make all different sizes of PEX. There will be two zones in the 1600...

Infrared tube vs. Infloor pex...pros/cons of either?

Building a shop this summer and all along I'd planned on putting in pex tubes for infloor radiant heat with either a boiler or water heater for the heat source. While talking with a local HVAC company, they suggested overhead infrared tubes. They've had excellent results with...
