    Thread pitch identification help (ACME?)

Can anyone identify what thread type this is? ACME I assume? It's from a piece of denture equipment, it is brass. It is stuck tight. Questions: 1. Is there a properly priced thread-pitch-gauge out there for ACME threads (non-china)? 2. Is there a source of fairly priced taps/dies for cutting...

Using 55gal Plastic Barrels for Culvert?

As an alternative to the traditional metal/pvc culverts, what about large plastic drum/barrels connected end-to-end? Question(s) would be: Would they be able withstand the pressures (depth considered)? Is there a good way to connect them to prevent leakage (maybe some kind of adhesive...

Woodworkers: Tell me about Manual Miter Sawing

These: I have a 20" "Disston & Sons" straight-back saw I got at a yard-sale and the local antique shop has large miter contraption similar to the picture above with a large, low-TPI saw to go with it (I think it is a Stanley). I'm thinking of buying it. Are these things pretty accurate...

    Socket-Size to Drive-Size?

When is a socket too large, or too small, for a drive size? Where are the official tables/charts and math for deciding when to move up or down on a size? Ex: I have a 28mm socket that is for a 1/2"dr. That seems a little too small a drive size to me. Idk. Thanks.

    Metal Storage Tray Sizes

What sizes do these metal storage trays come in? I've seen 18" but do they come in larger (say 20")? (BTW, what exactly are these called?) Any reason a setup like this wouldn't work for tool storage, as an alternative to a tool chest? Thanks.

Couple Questions: Japanese ratchets and Proto Breaker Bar - 1/2"

Hi. I have a couple questions I have to ask: 1. Are Japanese (perhaps older) sockets and ratchets any good? I heard rumor that they aren't very strong. 2. There is a Proto Breaker Bar - 1/2" (used) nearby for $15. Good deal? How do Proto Breaker Bars hold up? Thank you!

Q: Modern adj. wrench vs older PEXTO 15 adj. wrench?

I need a large Crescent Wrench. I may be able to get one of these for $10. In comparison to modern "Crescent" wrenches, what are the pro/cons? This old beast with thicker jaws looks like it could work a nut very well.. unless the steel is too soft, it won't fit right, or they were known to break...
