Flat roof to peak roof conversion

I have a 19'x23' double garage with a 2x68 framed flat roof. There is zero insulation in the ceiling so it's brutal in the summer. I live on Southern Vancouver Island so the winter is not too cold. I'd like to add a peaked roof with the 2x6's as the bottom chord of the rafter. The garage has a...

    Looking for sound isolation advice

I'm in the planning stages of a ~20' x 30' garage with a second floor suite, basically a carriage house. I do wood work and metal work. Looking for advice on how to best isolate the garage sound from the up stairs living areas. Already planning to put the air compressor outside in an add-on...

    Yet another welding cart.

I have a Primeweld TIG and Millermatic 140 MIG. When I bought the Primeweld I knew I had to do something different because my existing cart was too small for both. I bought a used warehouse cart for $50 and proceeded to turn it into a cart that would fit both machines and two 110 cu ft tanks...

    Square D 220v to 110v change over

I have a Square D magnetic switch on my Unisaw. I need to switch everything to 110v until I get my 220v service finished. I’m not quite sure how to change the switch wiring to 110v. Hoping someone can interpret what I’m looking at. Sent from my iPhone using Garage Journal

    Flux core vs solid

I have a spool of Lincoln .035 wire. Problem is most of the label is gone and I can't remember if it's flux core or solid. Is there a way to tell if it's flux or solid or should I just mount it up and see what happens?

    Design challenge

Hey folks, hoping I can lean on your collective expertise. I have a 23'x18' garage, flat roof with two overhead doors. I do a mix of woodwork and motorcycle restoration/maintenance. The design challenge is that there's a 6"x6" wooden pillar smack dab in the middle to support the 2x10's that...

    Used Unisaw

I’ve been looking for a saw to replace my vintage Beaver 2200 8” saw. I’ve done work to adapt a Delta T-square fence to it and it’s a great little saw but ultimately it’s too small. Been looking around at other older saws, all contractor style generally under $200. I don’t mind putting some...

MG-Krete is not available in my area. 60 miles + ferry crossing to the nearest distributor. What's the next best thing to fill some small <1/2" deep crevices before I do tile?

    Stocking your garage

Hi all, I'm curious what you do with regard to having stock in your garages. By stock I mean a supply of nuts, bolts, washers, screws etc. to deal with the times when you're repairing something and need a 1/2" nut or something like that. I fixing a patio heater tonight and despite looking...
