    SkyLink Garage Door Openers

Does anybody have any real world experience with this brand, particularly their direct drive (shaft mount) units?

Lightning Hit Nearby Tree, Dishwasher and Other Things Died

Yesterday a nasty storm swept through. Lightning hit a tree about 75 feet from the house. It killed: One of the three garage door openers, the one closest to the strike. An Optimum cable box. Two Blu-Ray players. The 85" Samsung TV. The land-line Phone system. The doorbell, it now has a...

Building the Cub Cadet Garage. Finally it's Done

I decided to build a small shed/garage for the Cub Cadet. Slab dimensions are 7'X7'. Taking the stud wall into account that more than sufficient for the mower and yard stuff I don't want in the garage or outdoors. The plan is (actually I have no drawn plan, I'm winging it) to frame it with a...

    Saw Blades?

What in your opinion are decent blades for a reciprocating saw? I don't use mine a lot but when I do I want it to cut. Typically I use the saw for demolition, cutting treated landscape wood (4X4 and the like), and occasionally metal pipes and angles, channels, etc.

    Garage sink location

I'm thinking of adding an 18"X18" stainless steel sink to the detached garage. The spot where I would like to put it is close to the in-wall garage breaker box. Would that be a problem? From what I've read I should have 15" minimum from the edge of the panel to any workspace, etc. For what...

Painting metal trim around garage doors

Now that I have the personnel door in the detached garage painted I need to address the bubbling paint on the aluminum trim around the door. My plan is to wire brush the loose/bubbling paint off back to the good paint, sand the bare metal and into the good paint a couple of inches and then hit...

    Need an adhesive recommendation

I've bought rubber stair treads to go on the wooden stairs in the garage. Those stair treads are painted wooden 2X12 material. I want to glue them down so they stay down. I've tried contact cement and outdoor carpet adhesive, both to no avail. The stuff doesn't want to stick to the backside...

Craftsman Batteries. Free to a Good Home. . . GONE

Already taken. Two good batteries for a Craftsman 18V drill and a charger. All three items are functional. The drill finally died and I'd rather not throw these away if someone can use them. If you want them let me know your zip code so I can figure out how much you need to send me for...

    Sharpening Step Drill Bits?

I've never seen anything on this. Is it possible? If so, how?

    Simple MaxJax Modification

The heavy steel pins that hold the arms to the part of the lift that moves up and down are a pain to remove. I made handles out of some round stock I had laying around, drilled holes in the apron of the pin and welded the handles in place from the underside of the pin. I painted the handles...

Are All Breaker Boxes This Tidy?

I removed the covers from the breaker boxes when I was painting the garage wall. These are the tidiest breaker boxes I've ever seen. When the electrician added the breaker for the island electric cooktop he told me this was about as precise work as he had ever seen.

Scuffing or Sanding a Floor For a Second Coat

My garage floors are coated with Rust Oleum's 2 part Epoxy. I've decided to give the floor a second coat. The directions say if the floor has been coated for over 4 days you will need to scuff or sand the existing epoxy to ensure the second coat adheres properly to the first. Question...

The fun starts in a month or so.

We made an offer on a house yesterday. A 20' X40', 10' ceiling four car attached garage with a 14X30 detached (originally built for an RV). Under the same roof and behind the four car garage is a 14'X20 shop room. Huge storage above the garage. Lots of empty spaces in the two breaker boxes...

    New lift is almost installed.

I bought a MaxJax portable two post lift. We picked it up in Theodore, Alabama on Wednesday. A big crate and a smaller box with the power unit; total of 985 lbs. Unloaded it Thursday and assembled everything. Today, Friday, I positioned the two towers and drilled the 10 holes for the...

    My two car garage

It's 20' X 20' with a 12' ceiling. Plenty of room for two of the cars. When I want to weld, grind, cut wood or sandblast I set up outside on the flagstone. The two car carport in the background in the last picture shelters the other two vehicles. There is an adjacent basement with...
