Putting Roof on Pole Shed type structure

Previous owners put up this chicken coop/run with 4x4's embedded into the ground. Unfortunately the 4x4's are only 6' above ground, so with the 1x6 boards there is only 5'8" of clearance, but that's a problem for another day. Is there an budget conscious way to put a roof on this structure? I...

To label, or not to label (toolbox drawers)

What says the hive mind when it comes to toolbox and storage labelling? On one hand, labels could be useful for when the wife helps out, or hopefully in the future when kids help out. On the other, no labels looks so clean. I've got a silhouette machine, so I can cut my own. I just haven't...

    DIY Concrete Sealer

I am helping my dad with his barn build and he had the concrete poured about 10 days ago, so still a solid 18+ days until we can tackle the floor. The finishers did a real nice job, and we want to seal the floor before moving anything in. What products do you guys suggest that we can do...

Ugly Concrete Repairs before Hellfire Install

Welp, went ahead and painted the garage and added new light fixtures. The place looks like a thousand bucks! The floor really detracts from the whole thing now. I think I've decided on @LegacyIndustrial Hellfire coating because of the ease for DIY install plus its chemical resistance...

What do you guys think would be fair prices for these tool boxes? Big top drawer one is missing the key and one drawer doesn't lock. Smaller drawers one is only 22"" deep and needs some slides replaced. Also has some paint flaking on the bottom edge.

    Drywall Lift Storage Ideas?

Any thoughts on a way to store a drywall lift out of the way? Mine consumes a ton of floor space, so I'm thinking maybe a wall mount solution would work?

Photo Request: Clean walls vs Putting things on the walls

I just painted my garage, and love the look of having the clean walls. However, I'm trying to fit another car into my garage this winter, so a lot of the stuff on the ground has to go up on the walls. I am hoping you guys could show some before/after photos after you wall-mounted lots of things.

Batt Ceiling Insulation without a Ceiling?

I'm wanting to insulate the ceiling of my garage but won't be able to put the ceiling covering up until springtime. Would there be any issues with just stapling the batts in place between the ceiling joists for the winter? The garage will be heated to 45 degrees all winter, hence why I want the...

Airgas Acetylene Hazmat Fee - Am I getting taken for a ride?

Just got back from swapping out my empty inherited Oxy Acetylene tanks at Airgas. The tanks were Airgas branded, so that just made sense. Anyhow, I just got back and noticed 2 weird things: 1) I noticed a $30 Hazmat fee on the Acetylene - Is this normal for in-person exchanges? I could...

New Garage - Relocate Electric Meter vs Breezeway

We've been meeting with contractors to discuss putting up a new garage. We were planning to build off the back of the house and extend sideways, making a 4 car garage look like a 2 car from the road. The electrical meter is on the wall that we were planning to **** the new garage against, so I...

Maxjax is running a $700 promo code SPRING. Brings the standard package to $3070. Not the $1600 of the before-times, but worthwhile for those in the market

Two Story Design - Barn Style Trusses or Standard Gable?

I'm looking to have a stick-built garage in the 34x28 size area put up. I want to put a 2 post lift in the leftmost bay, so I would like to have that ceiling open to the roof. Then have an 8' tall loft above the other 2 bays. I feel like this would be possible with a standard gable with ridge...

Stamped Drawings - Local or Online/Over the Phone?

My dad is building a 40x64x16, and in his town anything over 12' high needs stamped drawings. Rumor has it this requirement is due to the local drive-thru carwash building a living space above it. Anyhow, he wanted me to post on here asking how/where everyone got their plans from. Did you use...

For those with Plywood walls, what do you use to seal between each sheet edge? Some kind of caulking or sillicone?

What is "Air Sealing" and do I really need it?

Thanks to the helpful folks over in General Garage Discussion, now I am trying to learn what "Air Sealing" is. My understanding is that it is taking a spray foam type material and spraying all joints, ie. each stud to sheathing connection, around windows and doors, any wall penetrations, etc. I...

Concrete repair products - build up worn down concrete under garage door?

I figure this question is more general since it's about concrete repair products. Admins feel free to delete the other post. I have a 40 year old detached garage on a 42" foundation. Over the 40 years, the concrete in the right side of the opening has worn down more than the left side, so I am...

Concrete Repair under garage door opening

I have a 40 year old detached garage on a 42" foundation. Over the 40 years, the concrete in the right side of the opening has worn down more than the left side, so I am unable to get a good seal on my garage door. As silly as this sounds, this issue has me paralyzed from getting started on...

What to do while walls are still open?

Garage walls are still bare (to the studs). Have plenty of outlets. Not planning to run air lines behind the walls. What else should be done before insulation and wall covering goes on?

Commercial vs Traditional Residential Garage Door

Looking at an 18x8.5 door or 16x9. It looks like prices are about $300 (10%) cheaper for the commercial door, which to my understanding would be a little heavier duty. The appeal of the standard short panel style residential door is curb appeal. Any thoughts on which you would choose?
