    sockets for female ratchet?

So I recently learned about this "female" style of ratchet, like the Proto 5649FW: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/7M8AAOSwx75kUpkq/s-l1600.png And I have a seemingly stupid question about them: what kind of sockets do I use on these ratchets? Are there "male" sockets that fit in the square...

FOUND ---***--- Wanted: Armstrong Eliminator 3/8" drive extensions

Hi. I'm looking for the two extensions that were made for the 3/8" drive Armstrong Eliminator. Would be willing to buy the whole set if it's in good enough shape, as long as it comes with the extensions.

    Matco Special Forces parts kit?

I recently acquired a Matco Special Forces pass-through ratchet and socket set. Nifty little kit, but parts for it seem hard to find. I know the weak point on it is the pin that connects the handle to the flex head, so I wanted to try to find a spare sooner rather than later. Since this tool...

deep offset box end wrench application?

I've heard people here say "I don't use this tool often, but sometimes it's the only thing that will work." I'm wondering if that's the case with deep offset box end wrenches because I'm trying to think of a scenario where a deep offset box end wrench would work, but a ratchet and shallow...

    12-point or deep sockets?

I'm working on building out my tool box, and so far I've been focusing on the metric side because all my family's vehicles are metric. But I want to have some SAE just for good measure. However, I don't want to buy every type of SAE socket that there is (6-point shallow, 6-point deep, 12-point...

    Tool technology and copyright question

I've been thinking a lot about different hand tool technologies lately, like off-corner loading and wobble extensions, and now I'm wondering, why don't these types of technological advances in tools seem to be copyrighted? What I mean by that is, one tool manufacturer must come up with each of...

Any reason to have non-locking extensions if I were to have locking extensions?

I recently bought some nice extensions for my 3/8" ratchet, and then I immediately learned about locking extensions (which I had never heard of before). I'm almost certainly going to buy some locking extensions now because it seems like such a useful feature for an otherwise basic tool. And...

Most useful wrenches to add to my tool box?

I'm always looking to make my tool box a bit more complete. I'm sure I'm in good company that understands this feeling. I'm curious what you all think might be a useful set of wrenches to add to my collection. Primarily, I use my wrenches for weekend auto work. Currently, my tool box...

Do chrome tools need rust prevention spray?

I've been building up my ratchet and wrench collection this year and the only place I have to keep them is in the garage which can get humid. Do I need to be concerned about my chrome sockets/ratchets/wrenches rusting? Concerned enough to spray them with something like WD-40 or Boeshield T-9...

Is your go-to ratcheting wrench 6-point or 12-point?

I'm looking to get a nice set of ratcheting wrenches and I'm noticing that most of them are 12-point. But when I reach for my ratchet and sockets, I always reach for a 6-point socket first - less chance of rounding off the fastener. This will be my first set of ratcheting wrenches, and I...

Craftsman USA wrenches with flank drive

I apologize in advance if I'm getting my terminology wrong, but I'm interested in a set of Craftsman USA double box end wrenches that have a flank drive design. To be honest, I don't even know if this is a design that exists on Craftsman box ends or (if it does) when it would have started. The...

    Cleaning V-Steel

I recently bought myself a set of old Bahco V-Steel adjustable wrenches. They're in decent shape, but I'd like to clean them up a bit and try to get them looking really nice. There's a little bit of surface rust, some paint on one of them that I'd like to remove, and just general grime. But...

    Bahco Drop Forged vs V-Steel

I'm thinking of buying some Bahco adjustable wrenches, and the two types that I'm seeing the most of say either "drop forged" or "v-steel". The ones that say "drop forged" generally look older. Does anyone know the difference in quality between these two types of Bahco tools? I'm assuming the...

Can the MAC 3/8" XR1 GL be disassembled for cleaning?

I'd like to round out my socket collection with a nice palm ratchet, and the MAC 3/8" XR1 GL seems like it would fit the bill nicely. But I would definitely want to clean the internals of any used ratchet I buy, and I haven't been able to find out if this ratchet can be disassembled for...

Where do you draw the line between 3/8" drive and 1/2" drive?

I'm a weekend warrior who is slowly building his socket collection, and I started with 3/8" drive since that's what I use the most when working on my car. Some day, I'll bite the bullet and get a nice 1/2" drive socket set, but I've spent all the money I can for now so it'll have to wait a bit...

Are all SK sockets made in the USA?

When looking for used SK sockets, I'm wondering if I have to look for anything in particular if I want to only buy American made ones. Were they ever made anywhere else? Is there anything else to keep in mind when buying used SK sockets, as far as quality goes? Thanks in advance.

    craftsman 3/8-drive 6-point 8mm G-series deep socket?

Did Craftsman make anything smaller than 9mm on the 3/8-drive 6-point G-series deep sockets? The newer Craftsman has an 8mm - it's the CMMT99143. Not sure when they started making that size though. On the flip side, did they make anything bigger than the 19mm for that set?
