Chop saw calls out unreinforced blades, any reason not to use appropriate reinforced ones?

A while back I picked up a Kalamazoo KB7 7” abrasive chop saw. Cast iron construction, 75 lbs, built like a tank, 1hp Baldor motor, Material Capacity: 1″ solid round (mild steel), 2″ pipe (mild steel). I have other saws for bigger stuff. The documentation calls out to use non-reinforced...

Just got a new tool box, now how to decontaminate it.

I just was given an older Vidmar tool box, similar to the one shown in the photo. It is in reasonable shape with some rust on the bottom feet from spending the last decade in not-so-sealed shipping container outside. Eventually this will end up in the garage or possibly the house on carpet. But...

Made an inexpensive work light for my vertical bandsaw

Even with new LED work lights in the shop, found seeing scribe marks on material when using my vertical bandsaw a pain. I looked around at a lot of options that would provide lots of light in a compact package that could be far from the workpiece. The first requirement was due to a lot of light...

Drill press column mounted chip tray home made project

Drill press column mounted chip tray home made project The standard drill press table on my old Rockwell 15" drill press had a bunch of holes and slots for mounting vises. This always resulted in most of my drilled chips ending up on the floor much to my annoyance. I wanted to attach a cheap...

Please help identifying this "Made in Canada" intermediary tool chest

I had the day off today and spotted a "Made in Canada" intermediary tool chest forsale. The seller identified it as made for Craftsman, but it has no Craftsman identification on it. I also went thru my Craftsman catalog collection and did not see an equivalent from 1970-2010. Being "Made in...

Making an earthquake proof pry bar rack

Years back I purchased way too many Craftsman rebranded pry bars when Sears was blowing them out. I do use them but disliked how much tool box drawer space they consumed. Hanging them in a rack was the obvious solution. The prime location was attached to a storage rack high above my workbench. I...

Removing spinning rivets from Snap-on tool box drawer slides

I am a fan of used 80's vintage Snap-On tool chests as they fit well at work and are really well built. I picked up this KR650 top chest and am in the process of cleaning it up. The ball bearing drawer slides are extremely dirty and greasy. Also one set is damaged and needs to be replaced. I...

Possible to resurrect a document from an old album on GJ?

Years ago there was a vintage Snap-on tool box maintenance manual on an album on the Garage Journal that I had linked to on some old postings from 2019. The link no longer works and waybackmachine.com did not archive it. I am not sure if this was deleted or rendered inoperable with a software...

Interesting shop made bench grinder to belt grinder conversion for guitar mfg.

Saw this on the Los Angeles area Craigslist. Supposedly it came out of the Schecter guitar shop in the 1980s. Looks to be a 3/4hp Baldor grinder with small rubber contact wheels on either end. The dual 2x48 belts have screw driven independent belt tracking. The long spring tension arms allow for...

Possible replacement wrench for bench vise swivel bases (Parker, etc)

When I picked up a Parker Union bench vise years back, it was missing the wrench that tightens the clamping mechanism for the swivel base. I did some research and found that Williams made wrenches that could work as a replacement. I was able to find the size I needed on eBay.
