Very good! Channellock makes some great tools but they are pretty ordinary compared with Knipex.

I'm not worried about the battery. I just wondering about why this way of turning the meter on (pushing a button rather than turning the dial) is not documented. At least not in the latest incarnation of the manual - it is documented in an earlier version.

I suspect you are right about wearing out. But I ask this question because this way to turn the DMM on (I have an 87V), does not appear to be documented in the manual anywhere - which sort of makes me wonder (maybe its too obvious!?) . And sometimes of course, if you only have one hand free...

Just turn it back on by pushing one of the buttons after 'auto power off' has turned the DMM off. That is, I have the DMM dial turned to, say dcV, and auto power off turns the DMM off, if I just want to use dcV again is there any reason not to turn the DMM back on just by pushing a (any of the)...

And Wera drivers are the ones used (after relabelling) in Knipex plier-combo sets I understand. Can't get a better recommendation than that.

This all looks like good advice to me - especially when it comes to digital. I don't think anyone else gets really close to Mitutoyo when it comes to digital. Having said that how precise do you need to be and how often? A sensible and somewhat cheaper option might be to get a cheapo HF/clone...

I guess 'old' might be the most operative word. Tessa/B&S and the equivalent in the UK, Moore and Wright, all make great mics - but Mitutoyo (US and Japan) seem to be the leader in metrology these days and now even make a sub-micron (μm) micrometer. I guess my OP was expressing surprise, that...

There seems to be pretty general acceptance that Mitutoyo makes the best micrometers. I am wondering, given Knipex and other excellent German hand tools, why I don't hear about German micrometers? Or maybe its just me? Monte where are you!

Yep - Knipex Cobra is my preferred answer to many problems. Self locking, very stable, easily adjustable - metric or otherwise.

I mostly use diagonal cutters - for up to 3/4'' anyway. I might need a couple of goes for 1" but my Knipex diagonal cutters would do it easily.
