. I found this on the road today. I couldn't find the vise it goes to though. It has a big no 5 on the bottom of it.

Black and Decker type K 1/3hp bench grinder

My trusty old bench grinder finally started acting up. Obvious balance problem, capacitor and one bearing started to go. Anyway, as I'm pulling it apart my BIL shows up. This guy can and will over talk any activities going on around him. I had done pretty good marking and taking note of part...

    Bench Grinder Safety Glass

You can make your own safety glass by gluing the two pieces you've cut yourself with E6000. Just put enough in between both pieces to move them around until the air bubbles come out. I found a bunch of tubes of it for a buck each at the local Dollar General.

    Prentiss No. 20 Restoration Questions

I put a short coupling under the jaw so it would surround the top of the pin. The vise was sitting upside down in the press. I would do this as an absolute last resort though. It took an extreme amount of pressure to pop it out. With a press, if things aren't set up perfect, parts can come loose...

    Prentiss No. 20 Restoration Questions

Heat, soak and repeat the process. I broke the jaw on my first one using a press because I didn't have the jaw properly supported. The next one I did I didn't make the same mistake. Be prepared to ruin several punches trying to remove that damn pin. Just being persistent and patient is the ticket.

    Oil Can

Check out the guy that sells Japanese tools on here. One of those manufacturers makes an awesome oil can. We have one at work and it's flawless. I think the brand is Koken? I'm not sure but once you find the site you'll find the can.

Master set $35,000....has anyone EVER heard of these things selling?

There's obviously or hopefully a backstory. Maybe his wife wants him to sell and he doesn't want to sell so he told her that it's worth that much and he showed her the post?

    The VISES of Garage Journal

I'm really liking that finish on your vise. What, if any is the coating on it? I have a spare that I'd like to restore with that type of finish. Bump.

BIL gave me his dad's compressor.

Thanks for all the replies. I got to run it before we unhooked it and loaded it up. It had no moisture in the tank and the filter was still in place. I'm going to give it a bath tomorrow and hook it up. He also gave me two "come alongs", air hoses, fittings and some hammers. I'll talk more...

BIL gave me his dad's compressor.

My BIL's sister is selling the family home and she nor her brother had any use or place to put this and he asked if I wanted it. The only stipulation is to take care of it. I naturally agreed and will do. The oil looks really good and it's spent its life inside the garage with light duties such...

    Swivel jaw vise

Yeah, I know. I still feel like a ******* though. I should have mounted it over the roundstock in the first place. I'm just glad it can be repaired and I'm fortunate enough to have friends that will help me out as well as this forum. When I described what I had done, my machinist friend said...

    Swivel jaw vise

I put the piece of the top jaw back in the press on top of a short piece of round stock with a hole through the center and popped the pin out. In hindsight I probably should have left it under tension for a bit the first time. Kind of like doing it in steps. I left it sitting and went inside for...
