That's what happened to me after spending 375 on Saylor Beall with 13 hp honda then found a 250 tank and Champion air compressor for 200. The pulley cost 450 used on ebay! Couldn't see your pic.

Can't help with the unknown part but I too have the 390 honda and mine is a pain to crank even without the compressor belt attached, seems there's some sort of compression unloader which leaves the exhaust valve partially open until it runs to ease kickback. Just wondering if you have cranked...

Had a 6.5 hp model just about the same as yours and don't think it was 2 stage. A piece of **** to start with and would not even attempt to rebuild. Picked up this SB705 for 375 with it's 390 honda electric start but couldn't ever get the honda to start good so put 230v electric motor on it and a bigger tank. Here's a pic of it when I got it and a champion that needs a rebuild.
