Local, independently owned old-timey tool stores

Thanks for this ... I'd never heard of them before, and yet they're literally right down the street from me.

    MATCO Locking Flex Ratchets

Who is the OEM for the Matco? Is it made in USA or Taiwan? Also, what happened to @Wamsutta ... he got to 8,000 posts and vanished! :dunno:

Where are SnapOn’s new in house taps and dies?

I doubt this. Snap-On had been using Grip-On's locking pliers before switching to Malco ... Irwin wasn't even in the picture. If the wager really is that "Irwin cut off Snap-On", I'll take the other side.

    Sears Craftsman Display walls

I too worked at Sears hardware in the late-90s ... and no, I have no knowledge of the boards to which the OP is referring.

Hard Handle Nut Driver Recommendations (that isn't Snap On, super expensive, etc)

The Proto Duratek nutdrivers have been discontinued ... they will presumably (?) be replaced at some point by a French-made equivalent.

What's the consensus on Craftsman V-Series

That's a long list of FAIL ... and now represents the second failed "launch" under SBD's management!

What's the consensus on Craftsman V-Series

I am, frankly, disappointed with everything related to SBD. I was the most optimistic person on this board when SBD bought Craftsman ... but over the last five years, my attitude towards Craftsman, Dewalt, and Proto has soured considerably. Milwaukee may not be perfect, but it's a well-managed...

    The Milwaukee addiction thread! :)

The video below from Shop Tool Reviews covered a lot of the automotive tools.

What's the consensus on Craftsman V-Series

Thank you for your comments, much appreciated ... with regard to the orphaned tools, this does seem to be a recurring theme with SBD.

What's the consensus on Craftsman V-Series

I appreciate all of the responses. I recall when the new line was announced last year many GJers were pretty pumped, though a combination of high prices, skipped sizes and less-than-stellar ratchets had dampened enthusiasm ... sounds like nothing has changed.

What's the consensus on Craftsman V-Series

I'm curious what the consensus is on the Craftsman V-Series line? So I gather the ratchets are a BIG (n) The wrenches and sockets appear to be solid (?), but too many skipped sizes make them tough to get excited about? Same for the DBE ratcheting single-flex wrenches? What about the hex bits...

Show us your made in China tools.

I would be curious: 1) why you selected these over Channellock or Knipex or NWS; and 2) what's your initial assessment?

    Greatstar speaks

Hadn't production already been offshored prior to Great Star stepping in?

    Greatstar speaks

Folks here can say whatever they want --- and no doubt they will --- but if Great Star hadn't purchased SK, it's very likely that SK's fate would have resembled Pratt Read's. If there is ANY hope remaining for SK's future as an American tool manufacturer, it is entirely thanks to Great Star...

Precision Instruments new 'FX' wrenches out of calibration

I thought it was the other way around … I’ll be interested to see replies.

Why do GJer’s now prefer these Malco's to the Grip-On’s? What’s better about them? I hate the Malco release mechanism.

    Williams/Snap On Industrial

What is it about the wrenches ... do they have thicker beams? If memory serves, both Proto and Williams SuperCombo's are long-panel wrenches with anti-slip open ends.
