    The Best Light Fixture Ever!

As an alternative to strip lights, I'm lighting a 40' octagon barn with 10' ceiling. I decided to go with 6 standard sockets, spaced about 12' apart, using LED deformable "UFO" lights. Simple, cost effective, and lots of light. I recently tried about 5 different variations of these lights, 80W...

Concept for simple "what's in that box" inventory tracker

Git - Good suggestion! OneNote is a good tool for this, especially if you are detailed enough to be able to list everything! I considered that as a possibility, but I liked the google forms input structure from my phone a bit better. My conundrum was to find a solution that didn't need me to...

Concept for simple "what's in that box" inventory tracker

Agree on all of the above. https://www.uline.com/ is a great source for storage bins, boxes, and related stuff. My problem is things that don't fit into whatever the storage bin size is or are too heavy. For the most part, I gave up trying to standardize on a storage bin size, and just...

Concept for simple "what's in that box" inventory tracker

In my purge & inventory effort, I've thought a bit about the “categories of stuff” that I accumulate and store, and have mentally compartmentalized it into these buckets: Things (parts) I probably will need for a current or planned project Things I probably won’t need – until the day after I...

Concept for simple "what's in that box" inventory tracker

I have a ton of parts all over the place - from various projects and cars current and past. Although I’ve not been doing too bad trying to remember what I have, it’s a PITA to sort through a bunch of boxes to find something that I KNOW I have - somewhere. I considered an inventory system...

Challenger CL10V3-2 2-post lift installation experience

I bought mine from garageautoequipment.com. The lift ships direct from Challenger. It arrived very well packed and in perfect condition. No issues. It is HEAVY, so make sure you have a way to off-load it from a flatbed trailer.

Challenger CL10V3-2 2-post lift installation experience

Update: turns-out this is not correct. If you install the arms "backwards" as I did, you'll find that there are positions where the "front" arms WILL hit the lift pump on the power column as the lift is raised. So it's unfortunately NOT a "practical" option to install them backwards as I...

Challenger CL10V3-2 2-post lift installation experience

My decision. Not really happy about it, but had no other practical choice. Given the height, it had to be in the middle of the building, which is where one saw cut is. The saw cut is only about 1" deep into a 6" reinforced 4000 concrete slab, and I reasoned that the most critical were the...

Challenger CL10V3-2 2-post lift installation experience

Seems like a good deal, but presumably you have to disassemble, move, and re-install it? You'll need help or a loader. To answer your question, yes - the pucks are low enough to get under most any street car, including a C7 'vette. I'm very happy with my CL10V3!

Challenger CL10V3-2 2-post lift installation experience

I got the same on mine. And for completeness, at the top lock, you have about 67.5 clearance from the ground to the lowest point on the underside of the lift arm. Conclusion - you could park a car under a car on the lift, but you would have a hard time getting a full size truck or van under there.

Challenger CL10V3-2 2-post lift installation experience

I'll measure mine tomorrow and let you know. Dist. is correct - the extensions just raise the top bar by 2', so if you have a tall truck or van, you have enough clearance to get it high enough to work under it. The main columns and the carriages are all the same, only the extension is...

Challenger CL10V3-2 2-post lift installation experience

Off-topic - the L2800 is a nice little tractor - very useful where the L48 would be overkill! I've had my L48 for ~14 years now, and couldn't do without it. I've used it at the limit for all sorts of lifting and excavating (off-load the steel building material, lift and move a Southbend knee...

Challenger CL10V3-2 2-post lift installation experience

It uses teflon slides, but the columns are pretty stout steel. I'm sure it will out-last me!

Challenger CL10V3-2 2-post lift installation experience

re: pictures - I had the pics hosted on Imgur, don't know why some folks couldn't see them. In any case, I've moved them to a local album on garagejournal and changed the original post links, so any issues should now be resolved.

Challenger CL10V3-2 2-post lift installation experience

Yes, it was very well packed - and there was no damage from shipping. Only minor quality issue of any note was a cross-threaded bolt holding the cable stay pin at the bottom of one column. Other than being a PITA to remove, not a big deal. No missing parts either. Also, the trucker only...

Challenger CL10V3-2 2-post lift installation experience

[ I've updated picture links to a local album ] I thought some might be interested in my experience installing my lift. Late last year, I ordered and took delivery of a Challenger CL10V3-2 (with 2' extensions) from garageautoequipment.com. I had narrowed it down to Challenger or a Bendpak...

My 3/4" Plywood walls, inside metal building

Nice look and clever approach! I really like the shelf idea, just have to be careful to have the weight (if significant) toward the back half of the shelf I suppose. I've used 4x8 LP SmartSide 7/16" panels in a similar way for interior wall paneling - they have a board and batten pattern, are...

    Mice, how to?

I've found the rat-sized glue traps to be the most effective in my barns and attic. Caught 4 mice on one the other day in the barn. Just toss them in the garbage and replace. They are cheap if you buy them in bulk, and they don't go bad. Just don't step in one, as it's damn near impossible...
